Introduction Infofile May 2001
Where did we go? What happened to us all? How can a group of people
spanning countless nations and most continents of the world disappear at such
an alarming rate? Weve heard the same stories for years now, the scenes
dying! and bbses are dead, so how can ANSi live? and its finally becoming
true. While all these complaints were being logged, the scene was, for what itsworth, alive and well. Were down to a couple of groups, and only a handful of
artists, and where are the laments? No one complains anymore, its as though
the sign of a healthy artscene is worry of its passing. BBSing is certainly
gone, however we do not feel this is of any importance. While ANSis main forumwas the bulletin board system, it has long evolved past the simple BBS ad and
come to flourish in its own right as a true underground art form. Many of us
were once BBS sysops ourselves, but have given up that role in favour of the
digital pen and paper. ANSi is what we love, and the loss of BBSes will surely
not be our downfall.
Well what do we draw for now? you say. Ourselves and each other. Itsas simple as that! We dont need a practical use for this art form! For those
who are still around, who still love the medium: Did you care who the font was
for, or did you delight in its style and creation? Clearly the latter. BBSing
is our roots, but it is not our branches. The love of the medium, the
SATISFACTION of completing a truly unique art creation is the driving force
behind every artist. We are not looking for warez access anymore, and a Co
position on a board is coveted no longer. Lets face it. We love ANSi.
Through this love of ANSi, Fractal is born.
Group Philosophy
Fractal is not your every day group. We are not the same as the
conventional group the scene is so familiar with. We are not iCE, Legion, or
Avenge. We are not trying to steal other groups members, and we are not lookingto become the newest trend. We are looking to keep the legacy of ANSi alive.
This is not an organization thats just a bunch of people. These
individuals ARE the group. A love of ANSi, and a passion to keep drawing is
what keeps us tied together, keeps us coming back for more. We are all equal,
and every artist is an essential part of the group.
We believe that each ANSi is to be valued. There is no quality control
in Fractal -- its up to the artists discretion. Members of Fractal understand
the importance of quality over quantity. Size doesnt matter.
While this is a group of individuals, group decisions must be unanimous. The group acts as one in its decision process, and any new members must be
agreed upon by all. However, Fractal does not wish to grow in size to any greatamount. The scene can no longer support groups of any substantial weight, so
a single digit member base is more than enough. Hopefully this will spark othersmaller groups to form, alongside ourselves and ZeusIIs Fluid
Fractal is a group that believes a release is important. It should not
be on a predetermined schedule. When sufficient art has accumulated and group
members agree that a release is due, only then shall a pack be announced. Whilethe group is on no set schedule, this does not mean we wish to slack off. The
idea of a set release schedule violates the very principle of quality over
quantity. When its done, its done, and not by the end of the month.

Conclusion
ANSi is our medium. It may not live forever, but as long as its aroundwhile we are, no complaints. Getting new artists is going to be a task indeed,
but that is not Fractals worry. As long as we draw, we can enjoy the medium,
and that is all that matters. With that said, expect a full Fractal release as
soon as were ready. Its the summer of ANSi!
