Dear Reader :
Were baaaaaaack!!! The editors of Reality Check Network took a
short break about 3 months ago, but weve decided that the scene
currently lacks a comprehensive magazine to inform the warez public of
new things that occur. So, were back, and better than ever!!!
There are a number of new things in this issue. First of all, part
of the coding has been redone, so RCN has a new look. Next, we now have
a pop-up options menu that can be activated from anywhere in the
magazine, so if youre in the middle of reading an article and want to
change something such as the music volume you can do so without
exiting the article first. This issue also contains a secret article.
Well no, its not completely secret, but to read it, youll need a
password, and to get that password, youll have to beat the built-in
game! Good luck!
As always, we value your opinion. Improvements are constantly being
made as a direct result of user input. If you would like to participate
in the further enhancement of RCN, or would like to send a letter to the
editors or to a writer in particular please send e-mail to
an385786@anon.penet.fi. Note that we are no longer accepting
subscribers to the magazine. The reason is that the anon.penet.fi
server will not let us send attached files over 100k in size unless we
split them up, and that would be confusing for both us and the readers.
To make up for that, we offer a WWW site accessible via the Internet.
All issues will be promptly posted there. For more information, read
on.
In an effort to better interact with our readers, the editors of
RCN have devised a reader survey, and would appreciate it if you would
take the time to respond to it. After completion of the survey, you
simply need to send it attached to the above e-mail address. Note that
we prefer NOT getting messages encoded in MIME format. We also have a
voting booth so the readers can give input on their favorite groups.
New this issue are some little twirks that might sizzle your buns!
For those of you that feel more confortable holding a mouse, we now have
mouse support! Oh, and for those of you that want to take RCN with you
wherever you go, you can now print articles and/or the entire mag if
youre really cray-zee. Oh, and if you hate that rotating music that
we added last issue, you can turn it on and off in the Options menu.
Note that it defaults to off. We also have a new music track care of
Reality, the best Adlib composing team around!
Dont forget to keep sending in your votes for the groups you feel
are 1, and test your wits of the scene in our Warez-IQ questionnaire,
10 new questions in this issue! We still have an ASCII version of the
mag for those of you running UNIX/Linux, or those of you that want to
save credits on your boards and view the RCN-??.TXT file in a ZIP g.
RCN issues have now been made available to a wider audience thanks
to our new WebSite courtesy of RATM. Please feel free to browse around
- http://www.shu.edu/importmi/rcn/. RCN ardently feels that our
WebSite will satisfy our readers and is a welcome addition to our
methods of distribution.
Celestian, the RCN ANSi art coordinator, will no longer be accepting
any requests for ANSi artwork outside of RCN. Between his artwork for
RCN and DMN, he can longer find time to do any freelance artwork. He
has been receiving requests nonstop and would like to have a little
peace here and then.

Dear RCN,
I see an obvious bias in the RCN reviews against DOD in favor of
higher scores toward PWA, and it sickens me. I think your magazine is
STUPID for doing this, and hope that you will soon understand how
kick-ass DOD is and how shitty PWA is. Thank you.
Signed,
Undisclosed
Dear RCN,
Your ratings of PWA are waaay too low. Youre not giving an awesome
group credit for its awesome work. DOD, on the other hand, consistently
gets a higher average per release when they only release once a month.
Thats complete bullshit and unfair to the guys in PWA.
Signed,

Dear Readers,
Alright, this is the last time until next time that were going to
post any messages about us being biased. We intentionally dropped
Legacy when we started up RCN again for the sole purpose of keeping an
unbiased position when writing. We have absolutely no reason to be
biased towards or against anybody, and any mail that you might send us
regarding the matter will be used purely for the purpose of a good
laugh.
Now as for my opinions on PWA vs. DOD, I think DOD has better
quality, and PWA has more releases. However, that is just a reflection
of the past four weeks and is in NO WAY a consistent view of the groups.
My opinion of the groups fluctuates weekly. One week, PWA does better,
the next week DOD does better.

Dear RCN,
Im a member of Razor 1911 and Ive been reading your E-Zine and I
think its great. LOTS of articles that keep you reading for a long
time. Now, I have a gripe. In your Warez-IQ test, question 4 states,
What group is known for releasing FLOPPY games? You only desired one
answer, but Eclipse and Razor 1911 are the best candidates. Now I know
you wanted people to choose Eclipse, but the thing is, Eclipse hasnt
released a floppy in MONTHS! Razor 1911 on the other hand, has released
a handful probably two in the last week alone.
Also, Tyranny is releasing floppy games as well, as they are one of
the old school floppy game releasers not saying the old Tyranny floppy
releases were quality, but at least they were floppy.
Signed,
Toast
Dear Toast,
Thank you for your response! You make a good point in revealing
that some CD-RIP game groups do a better job of releasing floppy games
than some floppy-only game groups. However, our question desired a
response regarding a games group that releases nothing but floppy games,
no CD-RIPs whatsoever, and Eclipse is the only one on that list.
Tyranny has recently moved to CD-RIPs as well, and Razor 1911 I dont
distinguish Razor 1911 from Razor-CD, though an awesome group, is also
participating in the CD-RIP scene. Eclipse was the only choice in the
list that releases only floppy games.

Dear RCN,
Im really mad at RCN for making that Space Invaders game, it was
too hard to beat!!! Then, I found out that it was because I was in the
stupid Windows 95 window, so I got into full screen DOS, and it was much
easier. Id like to say that Mad RCN was especially funny. Especially
the article on tKRP and Winterhauk, that made me LAUGH for ages!!!
Finally, I find someone that thinks Winterhauk is an annoying punk ass
bitch that cant get none in real life. Tuxedo Mask, greets go out to
you!!! That Winterhauk must sure be pissed, good job guys, and in the
future, if you want any more ideas for RCN, Id be happy to contribute.
Also, is that Chicken-Watch article for real??? Dam that Rebel
Chicken needs some help. What the hell is wrong with him? Does he like
not have a dick or something? I cant believe hed get Hitex to call
that Morgan girl for him. Thats just unbelievable, getting a friend to
ask a girl out for him. Thats just plain sad.
Well, I dont want to sound all dickish. Id like to wish Rebel
Chicken good luck with the opposite sex. Id also like to say to Rebel
Chicken that he shouldnt worry so much about talking to girls, if you
act natural, girls would be a lot more easy to come by. I used to be
scared of girls like you, but not anymore, and now I get on girls all
the time. Do as I say, and youll have chicks all over you in no time
but not before schools over.

Dear RCN,
I was reading your excellent RCN issue 14 and noticed your section
about where to get future issues of RCN. Well, I run a United Kingdonw
web site on a T3 connection and I was going to ask if you would like a
United Kingdowm server where Europeans can help spread the magazine.

Dear Fujy,
I have gotten a multitude of offers similar to yours this week, so I
am really responding to all that wrote me. Our current WWW site is the
only official RCN site. However, we will not dispute any other sites
that people create for our benefit. RATM is doing a fantastic job
coordinating our current site and we feel that he is doing as good a job
as anyone else could do, if not far better. However, RATM is a busy
man, and we dont want to overload him with other sites for him to
update. So, I make the request of you : if you would like to put up a
WWW site containing some or all of RCNs issues, we will welcome the
offer. However, it will be up to you to update the site weekly, and
keep it up to par. We will, in support of your site, advertise it in
future issues of RCN assuming you notify us of your work.

Dear RCN,
I recently cruised into Warez5 for a few hours and was suprised how
many times the word LAMER came up. People were kicked for every
reason possible and labeled as a LAMER. Its rather funny since most
of the people in the warez channels are faggots who leech in channel
Fatefiles and talk about how ELITE they are. Lame people seem to use
the term LAMER to define anyone who they dont like.
People who are more into the group scene usually define lamers as
people who have a bad attitude or are lazy. It seems that the farther a
person gets in the scene the less inclined he is to brand some one a
LAMER. They also view lameness as having a bad attitude or acting
like an asshole to others without reason. The term LAMER is way over
used in the scene.
Signed,
Zord Scotch
Dear Zord Scotch,
Lets face it, the people that operate in Warez5 are their own
bait. I have absolutely nothing against the WarezX channels. It just
happens to be that they happen not to be my cup of tea, but whenever I
do join the channels, I am often amused at how people get kicked left
and right for being a LAMER, and all this by people who are lamers
themselves. You are absolutely right in this matter. However, about
FateFiles, Exceed in case you didnt know it changed the channel is
there to be leeched from, and I encourage all people, whether one I
would label as a LAMER or not, to go there first when looking for
recent files. Honestly, you get to leech and never get off IRC!!!

Dear RCN,
I have noticed lately that PCBoard PPEs are all looking the same
with only a few mods in the ansis or strings. Its time for some of
you BBS modders to go out and start making Renegade or Iniquity mods.
PCBoard is getting old fast. Its file system is second to none mostly
due to Boom Lab, but its message system is weak. If there exists a new
system that has the file system of PCBoard with the message bases of
Renegade and Oblivion 2, can exist, modders should start to support it.
Iniquity is a nice looking BBS system. Once it gets its bugs with
blind uploads and networking/multinode out of the way it will be a kick
ass system. PPE coders should start to look at other systems since just
about every PPE that could possibly be done is already made. The reason
that PCBoard is so popular is that there are so many mods for it out on
the boards. Coders should start making new Renegade and Iniquity mods
that take all the strengths of PCBoard and give it to those systems.
Boards that use PCBoard are beginning to look all the same with all the
same or similar mods. There is a need for Renegade and Ininuqity
modders who can make quality mods. Some of you coders should start
cranking them out. ACiD used to be the only group that had a Renegade
and Iniquity support section. It would be cool if some warez groups
started to recruit some artists and coders and put them to work making
practical.
Signed,
Skeelo Blow
Dear Skeelo Blow,
I used to be a Renegade freak. I still think its by far the most
user-friendly BBS system, and I still dont know half of what PCBoard
can do because its so hard to figure out. I have the 4 commands I
know and need to use to be able to get around, leech, upload, and read
messages, and I dont think my knowledge of PCBoard will get much better
any time soon. However, youre going to have a hard time arguing that
any other system is superior. Why? Simple. Try running Renegade in
multinode. 2 nodes? Cool. Try 3. Still alive? Youre lucky. Try
16, like some of the larger boards in the scene such as Park Central
and youll qickly find a crash. PCB is the only system I know of that
can do that so well except for WildCat, but I dont think I need to
waste my time commenting. Still, though, I agree that it would be
nice if he Renegade modification groups came back around, many single
node boards still run it.

Dear RCN,
Its great to see you back! You did a great job with your past
issues and youre doing an even better job now! I especially liked your
reviews section. You told me anything and everything Id ever wanted to
know about the groups at hand.
On a Wednesday a few months back, I joined RCN on IRC and got your
very first issue from RCN-XDCC. I giggled. What a piece of shit!
Scary thing is that it was better than anything else that was out at the
time. But just 4 weeks later, Issue 5, was just phenomenal, and now, I
look at issue 14, and I really have to congratulate you. An amazing
group of writers and reporters. You deserve a nobel prize.

Dear Shadow of Death,
We spend many hours working on our magazine every week. Its
excrutiating and time consuming, but its comments like yours that keep
us going. Yeah, I too read issue 1 a while ago, and, I too, share your

released that! Thanks for your support! And believe it or not, RCN
improves with every issue!

Reporter : Krypto Interviewee : Dr. Jekyl
Subject : Stockade Affiliation : n/a
RCN : What exactly is Stockade?
DRJ : Stockade is the mother of all toad blowers. Its kind of my
dedication to Oldwarez. Its a big old bot, run from my own
StockServ software, that contains at the time 479 of the best old
games.
RCN : What are your current and past affiliations?
DRJ : I began with MiRAGE several years back best run group Ive ever
been in - Thanks Kafka F. Kaska, it then merged and became GRiM.
GRiM merged with iCE, so I joined a bunch of local groups CHAOS,
NARC, MoS, then BoA and after a while iCE. I quit iCE after 2-3
days of being in it because I realized that it was all bullshit,
no sense in being in that kind of group. I had no affiliations
for two years until fATE Fast Action Trade Exchange stalked me.
I then joined 8088 which is now a defunct old warez release and
courier group which fell apart. I quit fATE and that was it for
me. I probably wont join any more groups. I never got into that
kr4d 3l33t idea of affiliations anyways. I can survive on my
handle alone.
RCN : fATE stalked you, or did a persistent Krypto persuade you to join?
DRJ : Thanks to some friends I made in Hardwire from the Under the
Gate project on CyberGate, namely Krypto, Aristotle, and
Devaste I hung out in Fate. Then, I saw the fATEs diz-tagger,
and lauged. I coded a better diz-tagger and Anti Derivative let
me into the group. Now my diz-tagger has been all hacked up and
is used by a lot of courier groups too bad they never got the
latest version though. Then I couriered my sweet will heart out
10.5 gigs per day babee!.
RCN : What made you decide to come up with Stockade?
DRJ : I started to get interested in old warez back in December when I
was with fATE. I began to offer them, and my offer list grew to
the point of having 131 files on one XDCC List, I plisted in
Oldwarez every 45 minutes, until I thought of a better way which
would be to automatically distribute automated text files with the
file list/descriptions in them. Then I worked from there into
what it is now.
RCN : The newest warez are what people seem to want most and is the
heart of the business. Have you seen a similar resurgence in old
warez?
DRJ : Not at all, in fact, Ive seen more and more people cramming to
get into Oldwarez. The channel has only grown since I first
joined it 18 months ago. People are fed up with 50 disk Doom
clones that sometimes work, but only on a Pentium 166MHz with 16
megabytes of RAM. I think the smart people are the ones dealing
with Oldwarez. Then theyre dealing with games that have been
proven to work, games that are programmed well and games that have
GAMEPLAY. I havent played a game written in the past two years
with any sense of gameplay in it. Its all shoot-em-up, bangem
out Doom clones and such. Theyre all mindless dribble to feed
the masses I suppose. What happened to the good stuff such as
Populous, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Kings Quest IV, Dune II,
etc.? I feel that the only game released in the past year or so
with any decent quality is Command and Conquer, but then again, it
only works well on a Pentium platform.
RCN : How much old warez do you pile in every day?
DRJ : I get around 40 to 60 megs of uploads per day. Some of the
uploaded games are already online, some of the uploaded games
suck, and some are just way too big or too new. But theres
usually about 10-20 games I can pick out per day to add onto the
bot.
RCN : You were originally a member of fATE. What made you decide to
leave fATE and was it your plan to leave fATE in order to further
develop Stockade?
DRJ : Yes, I was originally in fATE which by the way, was a REAL
hardcore rocking group, at least when I was in it. Besides being
paranoid of my shell administrator, and being fed up with some of
the really unfair shit going on in groups, I did for a large part
leave so I could work on the old warez business. You can say that
I finally saw the light and joined up with the Oldwarez crew to
work on Stockade, which was originally nothing more than an
extremely long XDCC List called OldJekyl.
RCN : Are you glad you left fATE for the old warez scene?
DRJ : I miss a lot of the old fATE crew, but those guys arent even in
fATE anymore anyways. I do miss the 5 am login to the sites,
writing my DCC lists, and running my XDCC-HTML convertor to make
the WWW for the slowbies. There was a sort of a thrill involved
with new warez, an infatuation I suppose. Everyone wants to try
the new warez, but in the end, old games are always more sought
out after. Im very glad I left the new shit alone. The old
warez scene is more homely and down to earth. And when you get
a game, you know that theres a 99 chance its not a fake. Old
warez, to put it short and sweet, blows the toad right outta any
new warez any day of the week. Well, maybe Windows v1.03 isnt
that attractive, but Im referring to games :
RCN : How often is Stockade accessed every day?
DRJ : Stockade transfers about 500-1000 games a day.
RCN : Where do you get most of your files from for Stockade?
DRJ : All the warez from Stockade come completely from donations.
Stockade is Stockade IV right now, which means its the 4th time
its started over from scratch. In old warez, if you offer, you
can get mostly any game your heart desires. So I just called out
for donations, and then gave those people who donated some leech
benefits, and so on.
RCN : Do you feel the old warez scene is overlooked and taken for
granted?
DRJ : Overlooked? Yes. Its overlooked by a mass populous of the
w4r3z-k1dd13s, which is good. Oldwarez isnt a place for
newbies who dont understand DOS or UNIX. Its meant for people
who know what theyre doing for the most part anyways. I think
its advantageous that its overlooked in that respect. We
already have all the good people in it. Im not sure how the old
warez scene can be taken for granted though, every scene is.
RCN : Stockade has been down 3 times prior. What problems can account
for these 3 shutdowns?
DRJ : I got shut down because of my stupidity. I used the ISPs
ghosted FTP server as an uploads site. Once I found out that
they found the warez, it was instant rm -R. Stockade II went down
because of more paranoia. No biggy. Stockade III went down
because I was stupid yet again. Since my ISP is pretty much
abandoned, and no one but me really IRCs from it, I decided to
make the source code world-writable so I could access it from all
my accounts. BIG BOOBOO! One of the ISP dorks, who used to be
the cosysop of a big warez board in 305 ironically, felt that he
did not like the fact that I was using up the ISPs resources. So
he planted a small backdoor into the code so that whenever I
updated the .NFO/WWW/.DCC data files, it would email the root, I
am the hacker. The root didnt like that.
RCN : Way before you started Stockade, and even before fATE, you were
involved in a warez operation called The Gate. What was that?
DRJ : The Gate or Under the Gate was my experiment in bourne shell
coding on CyberGate. I stumbled upon a group of piraters on
gate.net which had pooled their quotas together so they could get
warez from each other. So I then made The Gate a BBS-type
atmosphere complete with file areas, graffiti walls, etc., and
got a few hacked accounts together to create what you could say
was a 0-day BBS which offered 200 megs of 0-day warez, all run
from CyberGate. Unfortunately, one of the system administrators
noticed that there were lots of users accessing a certain
directory even with all my encryption ploys and managed to bust
all the hacked accounts along with a few legitimate ones.
Ironically, I talked to that system administrator a month ago and
he suggested that I restart CyberGate. Unfortunatley Im moving
to Sweden soon.
RCN : Many people had to log onto BBSes to retrieve old warez, was the
Stockade created as an alternative to this hassle?
DRJ : Stockade was created as a BBS over IRC type deal. Many BBSes do
not offer old warez anymore. Stockade is an intelligent tool that
helps to distribute and increase the variety of old warez in
Oldwarez. I got rather bored of the same old warez being offered
day in and day out. I think Stockade has been rather successful.
RCN : Why is Stockade consisted of only games?
DRJ : I used to run a new utils bot as well called Spatula, but I
found it was a lot easier to find new utils than old games. Its
like looking for todays newspaper, as opposed to trying to find
the New York times from April, 1947. I didnt want to offer old
utils, because theyre useless. I find it more of a joke than
anything else. I deleted Spatula eventually because I wanted to
have the hard disk space to further expand the library of games
found on Stockade.
RCN : Ive noticed the offer bots online handle changes ever so
frequently. Why is this done?
DRJ : The handle changes quite frequently due to the evils of word of
mouth. While I do like the fact that many people are using
Stockade, I dont want many of the WRONG people using Stockade.
This prevents people from channels other than Oldwarez from using
Stockade, and so mean old nasty NARCs dont find it...
RCN : Is Stockade run off a custom sript or is it based on other
offering scripts?
DRJ : The HEART of Stockade is StockServ v2.1, which is my own 100
original design, coded in 100 bourne shell bourne shell is 100
compatible on EVERY ISP which automatically creates the DCC
datafile, NFO file, and the optional WWW. StockServ interacts
with IRC via a frontend, which is your standard every day IRC
script tweaked to support StockServ. It comes in two flavors
right now, VeNoM and Atlantis, and eventually there will be Fluff
Phoenix and mIRC via a DOS version of StockServ due out soon.
The brilliant part of StockServ is that theres NO compiling
required for those hard-assed administrators who dont allow it,
and that you can actually IRC your bot as if it were a normal IRC
script.
RCN : All files on Stockade are free, correct?
DRJ : Stockade is 100 free with no minimum transfer speeds. I would
never operate any differently. The only restriction is the number
of slots, which is 3 for non-donators, and unlimited for donators.
Oldwarez is about free unrestricted old warez. Therefore, so is
Stockade.
RCN : Stockade was once available via the WWW. What happened to this
option?
DRJ : StockServ does automatically program the WWW interface, but the
reason why Stockade no longer has a WWW site is that there are no
longer any fast anonymous FTPs for me to use. So alas, its only
IRC this time.
RCN : Where can people go for more information on Stockade?
DRJ : To begin with, dont bother the people in Oldwarez about it.
They get annoyed about it and they wont crack either. You can
message me, Ill probably be away though, if I like you, I might
reply. But the best way to get on Stockade would be to get
involved with Oldwarez, just hang out with the crew. Lamers need
not bother.
RCN : Where should people send their donations?
DRJ : Just DCC them over to me. If theyre old, and not too insanely
huge, Ill add it to the Stockade. By the way, a Stockade CD is
in the works.

Reporter : Krypto Interviewee : Desys
Subject : Motiv8 Affiliation : Motiv8 Council
RCN : What is your current position in Motiv8?
DES : I am Motiv8 Council. I basically watch over the group, find fast
couriers, and fast FTP sites, etc. I also protect the channel. I
make sure the group doesnt die like the rumors say its going to
happen.
RCN : How was M8 founded?
DES : Well, I am not fimilar with all the history. I know that MASON
founded it. Hes still with us. It had some people that left and
quit. Igor was a council member along with Davan when I merged
tNt with M8 but they quit within a week. So I had to take the
place of Davan/Igor by watching the group and Davans job
couriering. I do a little couriering to some of our FTP sites.
I also do what Igor was supposed to do which was to watch the
group make sure it never dies, etc.
RCN : In recent news, Davan and Igor left M8. How can you account for
him leaving?
DES : Well I think they both left for perfectly good reasons. Davan
didnt almost kill the group the night he left. Igor almost did
though because obviously he did most of the work for months, which
shouldnt happen in a group. Its very hard running a 1 man group
and some couriers. Igor always loved M8 but MASON just wasnt
showing up so Igor quit for MALiCE and Davan quit for Amnesia,
both of which are top groups and I dont blame them. I just
wished theyd give it another week. Oh well, but like I said,
Igor left for a reason and I agree with his actions.
RCN : How has Igors absence effected M8?
DES : Well Igor had a FTP site that he was co-site operator on. One of
the best in the world. We lost it when he went to MALiCE. He
made sure everyone was cool and just hearing the fact that Igor
left made couple top people quit for other groups. Oh well, Ive
got the group doing a lot better. I got FTP sites and couriers.
Unlike other groups I have a real easy time finding FTP sites. I
find us 2 a week usually, we currently got quite a few. Thats
whats keeping us alive, our FTP sites and site operators.
RCN : For what reasons do you feel Davan left M8?
DES : Davan quit for the same reason. Davan was just a courier in most
peoples opinions. He did good, but he made the couriering part
for us great along with Igor. Davan was offered to go to Amnesia
and they are mostly winning everywhere along with RiSC, DGT,
MALiCE, RTS, or whatever you think. When he left, it didnt
really hurt us but his couriering hurt us. When Igor quit, THAT
almost killed us. Most of the members knew that Igor ran the
group for the most part. He merged M8 with tNt so M8 wouldnt die
after he left.
RCN : Approximately how many people have left M8 since the tNt merger?
DES : About 5 people have left, but these people were like Davan, Igor,
Caserd, and a couple others. That is ok, I thought itd be a lot
more but Ive replaced them all besides Igor, cause you cant
replace him. He basically kept the group alive then.
RCN : Could you explain to us why there was a merger between M8 and tNt
to begin with?
DES : Well tnt noticed M8 offered quite a few FTP sites which tNt was
losing on through the summer. I wanted a lot more top couriers,
also we had 2 or 3 GREAT couriers. Now we have a lot of people
that are capable and I am accepting people who can courier like a
gig if that much is released each week.
RCN : What effect has the merger brought about?
DES : Well, were twice as powerful with M8 and we are doing better with
all these FTP sites.
RCN : No regrets in merging with tNt?
DES : None.
RCN : Its well known of M8s strength in FTP sites. Considering most
FTP sites are college based, many of them will go down this
summer. How do you feel this will effect M8?
DES : Actually, I have managed to find us TONS of FTP sites that are up
in the summer, which most groups cant do. Well thats a strength
and I blocked the hole that made us lose all these FTP sites.
Yes, we have lost a few but oh well...
RCN : Aside from the SMALL breakup in M8, what other problems has M8
faced in the past?
DES : Well, just these rumors and other couriering groups stealing our
FTP sites and couriers. I have tried to get them back and thats
about it.
RCN : Since the Fatefiles days, M8Leech was not rather successful.
But in recent days, M8Leech is now comparable to todays Exceed
Exceed was previously known as Fatefiles. How do you account
for this recent success?
DES : Well basically, I ignore M8Leech for reasons most people do. FTP
sites are fine with me. Ill let the IRC division run that which
I usually dont touch. Another problem is that we have to find
bots and people to get the channel back which is a big hassle.
Exceed is loaded with people you never want to meet, if you catch
my drift. M8Leech is turning just as bad. So I tell the IRC
division to just have fun since I really dont care :
RCN : Which groups does M8 courier for?
DES : We recently lost SODOM.. BIG DEAL. We gained SiVA and were still
couriering for UCF. But all around well courier for anyone at a
moments notice.
RCN : What are M8s current goals and plans for the future?
DES : Were trying to make a strong FTP trading team by getting LOADS of
FTP sites with our couriers. I also want M8 to be one of top 5
courier groups in most peoples opinion and to let me senior a
little less and courier a little more. If I can work on
organization and get more FTP sites, thatll make it all fun.
Also, I just want us to HAVE FUN.
RCN : In all honesty, should you have to rank M8 amongst the other
courier groups, where would you place yourselves?
DES : Well, M8s about fifth or sixth. RiSC is 1, DGT and AMN is 2
and 3, RTS is 4, and were about equal with Empire.
RCN : Which do you feel is stronger, your Internet division or BBS
spreading division?
DES : Thats the easy question. INTERNET!!! BBSes are getting too old
and outdated.
RCN : What do you feel are M8s strengths?
DES : M8s best at FTP and IRC couriering.
RCN : What do you feel are M8s weaknesses?
DES : Uhhh... we have to get more organized.
RCN : Do you in any way feel M8 hasnt been getting the respect it
deserves or is underrated?
DES : Yes, I dont think people should get greedy and steal FTP sites
and couriers, but thats life. These little lamers in some group
last week said they could beat the whole M8 team with their 2400
baud modems which.. NO NAMES...
RCN : What are some prospects you feel about the scene?
DES : Well the scenes summer is gonna be lagged a bit due to FTP sites
down people, me getting a life, etc. Unless you want kill your
summer, the scenes summer will be slow.

Reporter : Rebel Chicken Interviewee : Sailor Moon
Subject : Moon Prism.. Power!!! Affiliation : Sailor Moon
RCN : What kind of group is Sailor Moon and how did it start up?
SMO : Well, were five models from Miami, Florida. We all work in the
same modeling studio and so we decided to rent an apartment
between the five of us. The studio sent us a computer along with
some Internet software to work with, I dont know why they sent us
one, were models, we dont really have a need for computers. All
we have to do is look good in front of the camera. Anyways,
Sailor Venus started messing around on IRC and we stumbled upon
warez. Sailor Venus boytoy men are just toys meant for
beautiful women to abuse is a district manager of Egghead. So
Sailor Venus started teaching him about the Internet, and soon,
got us all hooked on it. We realized that Sailor Venus boytoy
could help us supply with some new warez, we decided to help out
the scene, and thus, we formed Sailor Moon.
RCN : Why did you name your group after yourself?
SMO : I didnt. Were all big fans of the Japanese Animation Sailor
Moon : Pretty Soldier the North American version translated by
DIC is horrible compared to the original Japanese series.
Anyways, we realized that we wanted to name our group after
something we liked, and I came up with the idea to start the
group, so I named myself Sailor Moon, and gave my 4 roommates
handles as well.
RCN : Ive been seeing a lot of warez released lately by your group,
Sailor Moon, some of them were useless PUD files aka WarCraft II
Expansion Set : Beyond the Dark Portal, and the rest were
basically kids software.
SMO : We really dont care about that quality and quantity bullshit.
When Sailor Venus boyfriend gets us a release, we attach the
diz/nfo and we send it via our T1. We dont have time to worry
about any other bullshit. If you were living with us, youd
understand what being a model is like we have hectic schedules
everyday and we can only find time for releasing on weekends. You
can look at us as a very relaxed group, we dont even have a
public IRC channel. We all live together, if we want something
done, I just talk to my friends.
RCN : You only have one supplier I assume? Do you feel that is enough
to sustain your group? What is the handle of your supplier?
SMO : We havent given him a handle yet, and we arent planning to. You
see, Sailor Moon is a girls group only. Were not looking for any
more suppliers, and were not looking for any more members. If we
like someone and we think they can help the group, Ill just
approach them face to face. Our modeling studio is my recruiting
ground. If youre not a model, dont even bother applying.
RCN : How old are the members of Sailor Moon?
SMO : Im 23, Sailor Mercury is 22, Sailor Venus is 21, Sailor Mars is
23, and Sailor Jupiter is 22.
RCN : Since you didnt mention Sailor Venus boyfriend as a member, I
assume he isnt one?
SMO : Youre correct, we dont consider him a member, hes just a friend
of ours.
RCN : How have you spread your warez in the past? You have not accepted
any courier applications I assume, or any applications at all?
SMO : We have covert contacts with couriers from RiSC, Amnesia, and
fATE. We just dcc it to them and they take care of the spreading
for us.
RCN : Is Sailor Moon planning on having official couriers?
SMO : That bullshit? Yeah.. sure.. we dont even have time to mess with
an IRC channel and you think well want to have official couriers?
RCN : Argh.. sorry for asking.
SMO : Its ok.
I talked to her on the phone later that day, but could not convince
her to tell me which magazines shes been in, or to send me one of her
photo shoots in gif or jpg format. She sounded like a really nice
person over the phone, but she sounded awfully bitchy over IRC kind
of reminds me of Winterhawk, but Winterhawk is not exactly a model.
Shes a model, I guess its natural for her to act that way.

Reporter : Rebel Chicken Interviewee : Marbz
Subject : Empire Affiliation : Empire President
RCN : A few months ago, you were the President of a jumpstart courier
group called dCS Designated Courier Specialists. It didnt
surprise me much that it died within a week. It lacked
leadership, talent, and enthusiasm, along with many other things
found in a good courier group. However, right after dCS died, I
saw that you immediately became the President of another new
courier group, Empire. Empire has not only outlived the one week
group stage, but its survived for months now and is showing its
presence in the scene. Howd you do it Marbz?
MAR : dCS was more of a learning experience for me and for most of my
members, from that experience I met some good traders and got more
insight on how to run shit. Then I decided to do it right this
second time with Empire and now here I am.
RCN : So one day, you were running dCS, and then you said to yourself,
Im not doing this right, and the very next day, you came up
with.. Empire? Thats how your groups evolved? It must have been
more than a one day thing.
MAR : Haha.. no it took me a few weeks to realize dCS was going
downhill. I just thought some things over and tried to work some
shit out. But when it came down to it, I really didnt have the
members nor the leadership I needed to keep it together. So I
talked to some of the guys I thought were doing a good job and who
knew what they were doing, and we decided to form Empire.
RCN : So not everyone from dCS made it to Empire, you had to do some
CUTTING hey? You felt that dCS was going downhill and that you
didnt have the leadership? So you LACKED leadership qualities
while you were the President of dCS, how then, did you suddenly
develop your skills, or did you start Empire with a friend, and he
provided the needed leadership, and thus, deserves the real credit
for making Empire what it is today, a very strong upcoming courier
group.
MAR : Not everyone from dCS made it to Empire. In fact only a few did.
The mistake I made with dCS was that I was too easy in letting
members in. I didnt check up on them. I didnt even put them on
trial. The other major thing that didnt happen was my seniors.
They were just plain lazy and never helped out. So I just started
talking to some other leaders and shit and picked up pointers here
and there.
RCN : Yes, I can tell youve improved a lot just by looking at your
Empire NFO, I can see some very big names. Our readers, some of
who will some day run their own groups, would like to know, how
you recruited such big names. For example, howd you recruit
Arch Magi, who runs a 13 node ISDN board ex-Razor 1911 Courier
HQ, ex-Legacy World HQ. Also, howd you recruit Mike and Dave
one of the BEST long distance bluebox couriers from Holland?
MAR : Well, mainly just by being in the scene and meeting new people.
Thats all you can really do in order to start getting familiar
with the scene and how it works.
RCN : How would you rate Empire compared to the big groups such as RiSC,
Amnesia, Digital, and fATE? A lot of people are starting to
consider Empire one of the top courier groups? How has Empire
been successful in the scene compared to the other groups?
MAR : I dont feel that Empire is ready to compete to its full
potential. RiSC has been in the scene for some time and their
leaders know what they are doing and have the experience. Empire
isnt mature enought YET. Theyve been around the block and they
know what they are doing. I dont really know a lot about Amnesia
but they look to me like they know what the fuck they are doing.
In this point in time I dont feel that Empire has the experience
to compete against them but in the long run, well make it up to
their status.
RCN : Well, at least youre being honest, but you forgot to mention
about fATE and Digital?
MAR : Id rather not please.
RCN : How many private FTP sites do Empire members have access to?
MAR : We currently have 4 private FTP sites.
RCN : Many courier groups have sites which are run through connections
through their college. And thus, many courier groups take a big
hit when summer time rolls along and all the college linked sites
go down, will summer time have a big effect for Empire?
MAR : Yes, Empire will be losing 2 sites because of it and those 2 sites
are run by some of our best members. Yes, it will definitely
effect us.
RCN : Is Empire official couriers for any release groups?
MAR : We have had oppurtunites to become official for some very large
groups but have not taken up on the offer.
RCN : Which groups?
MAR : I cannot say.
RCN : Why did you not take up their offers?
MAR : Well, for one thing they werent very organised. They could
release, but I could tell that they were not as active as they
were a few years back.
RCN : Since Empire is not officials for anyone, do you find it hard to
find stuff to tag? Do you guys tag at all, double tag, or strip
tag?
MAR : We will NEVER double or strip tag because theres no point in doing
that. But yes, we do tag if we find a new warez thats not been
tagged. Since most of our traders are in other release groups we
can get a release the minute its released.
RCN : Do you courier warez thats been tagged by Empire? or do you guys
still courier anything and everything regardless of who tagged it?
MAR : Yes, we trade all warez. If they are tagged we dont tag them.
We just kindly pass the warez along.

Reporter : Rebel Chicken Interviewee : The Wicked One
Subject : MindCrash??? Uh... Affiliation : DMT President
RCN : A few months ago, you were once the president of top-notch courier
group known as MC MindCrash. However, it died mysteriously and
many are not aware of your new ventures. But before we get to
your new group, lets go through how MC died?
TWO : MC got to be so big and out of hand that trouble was erupting
everywhere. I had to leave the scene for a period due to having
to get other things straightened out. When I left, I put Avoozl
in charge Avoozl had left the group before due to outside
problems. Many people thought my vice-president, Blitzkrieg
should have been put in charge, and the only reason I did not
leave him in charge was that I could talk to Avoozl voice every
day and in that way, still semi-run the group. People started
saying that maybe Blitzkrieg should start his own group, which he
did, called IMP Impulse.
RCN : Did you know beforehand that Blitzkrieg was planning to start his
own courier group?
TWO : Yes. Knowing beforehand what was going to happen, Avoozl and I
decided to just abandon the MC name altogether and start fresh
with something new. Blitzkriegs group quickly merged into DGT
Digital. We took the main ideal of quality and offered MCs
best couriers a spot in the new group.
RCN : What is the name of your new group?
TWO : We call ourselves DMT DarkMoon Traders.
RCN : How many members are there in DMT?
TWO : DMT is currently consisted of about 20 members. Of the 20
members, 7 are site operators.
RCN : When your new group started up, did you invite all your old MC
members, or only some? If you invited only some, did you invite
Blitzkrieg and Devast into DMT? Blitzkrieg and Devast are
currently DGT leaders, who were both ex-MC.
TWO : I only invited the top members of MC. Only 3 of the people who
were invited did not come with me. I did not invite Blitzkrieg
because he was heavy into making his new group. Devast was kicked
out of MC a long time ago and he has never forgotten it, so I did
not think it would be a good idea to make him a part of DMT.
RCN : Who were the 3 people who rejected your proposal?
TWO : The 3 people who rejected my proposal were, Swamper who is now in
Digital, Tutt who is now in.. I have no clue, and Chrome who is
now in Motiv8.
RCN : You mentioned to me earlier that your group works underground, why
have you kept DMTs presence underground? Will it not make it
harder for good couriers and site operators to apply for the
group?
TWO : Yes, it is very hard to get in touch with DMT. If theyre good
enough, theyll find us. The reason we decided to keep it
underground is that it keeps our members hidden from federal
agents. It gives an added element of security. Besides, we
arent into egos and were all past that bullshit. We dont need
people to TELL us were good, we KNOW were good.
RCN : So you guys dont even have an NFO?
TWO : Our NFO file only has an email address where you can reach us, and
a little information about the group at the bottom.
RCN : Since DMT is so underground, how would someone apply?
TWO : To get in touch with DMT, just email changj@webe.hooked.net.
RCN : If you look at DMT in its current status, do you think its
reached the level MC reached during its peak a few months back?
Do you believe youll be able to repeat the magic twice?
TWO : DMT lacks the numbers of MC, but the quality of the couriers is
much better overall. There is no question as to what everyones
purpose is in the group, and with time DMT will easily become
better than MC ever was. I dont know if I can repeat magic, but
Im still the same person, I just work a little more efficiently,
and have more top-notch couriers to work with.
RCN : Even though DMT is underground, have you guys attempted to recruit
official release groups to courier for?
TWO : We attempted to recruit Fierce at one time, but Fierce chose DGT.
RCN : Have you encountered any problems with old MC members while
starting DMT?
TWO : There have hardly been any problems at all. Its been an easy
transition, our members are so dedicated I must give all credit to
them.
RCN : There are groups such as Everlast that have gone underground and
many consider that theyre at least as good as RiSC if not better,
which only goes to show that an underground group is by far NOT
handicapped because it is underground. Do you feel that DMT will
be considered in competition in the same manner as Everlast is to
the rest of the scene?
TWO : Everlast is made up of guys who stick together and are a team much
like DMT. They let the work they do speak for themselves, as do
we.

Subject : PTA Beeeaaaach!!! Affiliation : PTA President
RCN : PTA Power Trading Arsenal Couriers have been around for a few
weeks now, and has started to show its presence in the couriering
scene, where did it spawn from? Why did you decide to create PTA?
IMP : I started by joining DiC Domination In Couriering. I became a
small BBS Courier for them. Then Blackened President of DiC
killed DiC and joined fATE, I was left with no group to courier
for. I then heard that one of the vice-presidents of DiC was in
the process of creating a new courier group called FCC First
Class Couriering. I became the art coordinator for FCC and soon
became FCCs general coordinator. FCC then changed its name to
SMC Smooth Moving Couriers. One day, the President of FCC told
me that he no longer had the time to run the group, so I took over
the group, and within a week, I changed its name to PTA since SMC
was already in use.
RCN : There are already tons of couriering groups out there, what makes
PTA different? How wil it stand out from the rest?
IMP : We will stand out from the rest because all our couriers are
dedicated. We have worked EXTREMELY hard to get to where we are
at. We dont double or strip tag, and our group is made up of a
circle of friends. We have come to trust one another. We are all
dedicated to our job immensely.
RCN : Through that trust, have you encountred any problems running the
group or in getting people to improve in their couriering
abilities? What happens when someone slacks off and gets lazy?
Will you kick a FRIEND out of your group, or is he allowed to take
leave when needed?
IMP : Well, if a member gets lazy, which a few have, we will give them
time to make a comeback. If they dont put in any effort, I will
personally talk with the member, find out the problems and we will
make an agreement. Either they agree to go down a position or
work harder.
RCN : That is a very good method. How many members are there in PTA?
IMP : We have approximately 35 members.
RCN : How many Private FTP sites are run by PTA?
IMP : We currently have access to 2 private FTP sites.
RCN : Many courier groups enter a slump during the summer because
theyre site operators who have to leave their college during the
summer break, will that have an effect on any of PTAs sites?
IMP : It may have an effect on 1 site, but we will most likely have a
new one soon so we will always have the same ammount of stable
sites until school is back, then we will have all 3 together once
more.
RCN : You are a very new leader since you have not had anyone to learn
leadership skills from. You were in a group called DiC which died
in a matter of weeks, do you feel that PTA might turn out to be a
group with no potential as the weeks roll by? What are your
future plans for PTA?
IMP : Ive always been a good leader. I run a really successfull art
group that does work for 613/819 area. We are the dominating
artists of that area. I feel that we have a lot of potential. I
try not to make any bad mistakes, and I havent made any bad
mistakes so far. I think before I act, and Im a nice guy. I
dont get pissed off at people for nothing. I am friends with a
lot of presidents around the scene. My plans for PTA is to become
feared by other courier groups. I want PTA to become widely
known. I want newbies to look up to PTA like how many look up to
RiSC and fATE.
RCN : Great, so your main goal in the scene is to become well known, do
you feel that as your group does gain its deserved respect, that
your group trust might fall apart since members might be striving
toward selfishness and ego trips?
IMP : I dont think many other courier groups respect us yet. The trust
wont fall apart because were all friends. Anyone thats gets off
on an ego trip will be approached, and given a little reality
check no pun intended. If they dont realize what theyre
doing, then the other seniors and I talk it over with them. I
work with each and every member personally, some presidents I know
dont even know half his members. I want total control over my
group. I want to keep it on track.
RCN : Is there a central message that youd like to inform the scene
concerning PTA?
IMP : Id like to say that PTA is not a group of 3L1T3 Pricks. Id
also like to thank Locutous. Hes been one of the best members
Ive ever worked with. Hes helped the group a lot and is greatly
appreciated.

RCN : What is your opinion of RCN as an E-Zine group?
INC : Well, I think it has done well in the past. But, its reputation
was basically ruined because of the incident.
RCN : The Incident? Can you explain what you mean by the incident?
INC : To make a long story short. Wave Rider had a disagreement with
Road Rebel over the supply of a certain program to Legacy
Entertainment, and RoadRebel called up a beta tester for that
company and Narqed on WaveRider, and well, The rest is history.
RCN : Do you feel RCN has potential as an E-Zine group?
INC : Not now, RCN will only have potential if it drops Road Rebel
immediately and in turn recruits someone more productive such as
Entropy.
RCN : Do you have anything personal against Road Rebel?
INC : Yes, I do. Wave Rider is a friend of mine and he suffered just
because Road Rebel wanted to be an ASSHOLE, he took it WAY TOO
FAR.
RCN : What trouble did Wave Rider get into?
INC : No comment.
RCN : Would you read RCN magazine even though Road Rebel is still in the
group?
INC : No, I would not. And Im going to spread the word as far as
possible to tell people not to spread it on any boards or on any
FTP sites.
RCN : If Road Rebel wasnt a part of RCN, would you be a regular reader
of RCN?
INC : Probably. People such as Road Rebel should be dragged out into
the street and shot. This damn box in front of me is supposed to

deep trouble.
Dear Incarnate,
Not only are you not aware of the whole story of which you so

does effect RCNs reputation. Road Rebel is a part of RCN, and hes
staying a part of RCN, whether you like it or not...

RCN : Who are you and how long have you being in the scene?
UNI : I was the President of AOF Arsenists on Fire. I was also a
member of DMN Demolition, ROR Release on Rampage, and MTY
Mortality. Ive been in the scene for about 2 years now but I
was kicked in November of 1995.
RCN : I see you were the President of a group that actually lasted
longer than 2 months, a group that actually released a few worth
while games and utils. Why did you leave AOF?
UNI : I didnt actually want to leave AOF, I was forced to resign.
RCN : Why were you forced to resign and by whom?
UNI : Well, I was forced to leave because Tha Stuff, Demon, and
Skyscraper said that I was an immature President and that I cant
run a group. AOF was a releasing group, we released a few
releases and a release that DOD duped. We had a lot of really
talented suppliers, a few from Borland and Microsoft. Skyscraper
said that I could stay and supply for them, but I thought about
it, from being a President to being a supplier, it was not a good
deal. A month after my forced resignation, I saw that it had
merged into COPS, BLAH!
RCN : What is your current opinion on COPS? There are serveral members
stating that COPS is lame and they have to get their shit
together.
UNI : I think that COPS can be okay if they put their shit together,
like you said, and I dont think that they are very organized,
especially not if they release shit like BLAKE STONE, a program
from 1993 with an engine similar to Wolfenstine 3D.
RCN : When you were forced to resign as President of AOF, did you just
leave? After all, you were the President, you should have at
least had some power in the way things got done. Was there a lack
of leadership from your part, or were there power struggles
between seniors and members, or was there just a lot of the same
old ego bullshit?
UNI : Well, I didnt feel like having a fight with Tha Stuff, I thought
he deserved a little bit more power, so I made him vice-president,
I think he got a little carried away with power.
RCN : Do you regret leaving AOF?
UNI : I dont regret leaving AOF, I think that I learned a lot from
leaving.
RCN : What groups are you currently affiliated with?
UNI : I am not affiliated as of yet.
RCN : As of yet? I see that you are getting back into the scene soon
then? What are your future plans?
UNI : I think I might try to join a highly respected releasing group, or
maybe getting a FTP site and then joining PWA or DOD.
RCN : Are you comfortable coming back into the scene? Do you feel that
Tha Stuff, Demon, or Skyscraper might bug you or harass you in any
way?
UNI : Hehehe, I aint scared SHIT of Tha Stuff, Demon, Skyscraper, or

merge into COPS, that way, both groups can be lame together.

will not give out the IPs to my mother.
Frost Who the hell should I ask now that Winterhawk is gone?
IrnSteel Pray to God and cross your fingers...
Frost Tell me Digital Vampire, who the hell would want to join a group
that only has one FTP site?
IrnSteel Its not about FTP sites. Its about trading.
Ranik Welcome to independence boys and girls. We just lost half our
council.
IrnSteel Only half?
DigiVamp Ranik shut up!!!
Ranik Digital Vampire, NO.
ToughGuy Things aint looking good...
DigiVamp If all of you gave one fucking shit about the group, give me
a week to fix things.
Deathwind Where the hell is everyone?
Ranik Deathwind, the group is split and fucked up.
HeadHunter They all quit.
HeadHunter Now I see Digital Vampire trying to take over and run
MALiCE.
DigiVamp Ranik, I kindly asked that you give me a week.
Ranik Head Hunter, thats correct.
HeadHunter Haaaaa!!!
DigiVamp Head Hunter just wants the group to die! What a fucking
asshole!!! I try to do something and the punk ass bitches
kick me.
HeadHunter I dont want the group to die. I want Dorian Hawkmoon and
Jake the Snake to fix things.
DigiVamp I fucking GIVE UP.
*** DigiVamp digi-v@L82.borg.com has left channel Malice
HeadHunter Good, he should have left the group sooner, then this
wouldnt have happened.
Deathwind Anything good happen today?
HeadHunter Digital Vampire quit, thats the only good I saw.
*** DigiVamp digi-v@L82.borg.com has joined channel Malice
HeadHunter Mr. Give me a week to fix things is back.
DigiVamp Fuck you Head Hunter!!! Youre a fucking asshole!!!
Deathwind What the fuck happend to this group!
IrnSteel Nothing has happend to the group. Some decided it best to
move on.
Deathwind Iron Steel, wake up! With out Winterhawk, LeoDLion, High
Lander, and Cyberian Tiger, this group is shit!
DigiVamp Ive given up trying to help MALiCE. I cant do anything
with pessimists like Head Hunter.
*** Wintrhwk madonia@madonia.inlink.com has joined channel Malice
Wintrhwk Look, no particular person has made me quit. Look, you can
all move forward.
DigiVamp It would be a shame to loose a group over FTP sites.
Ranik Digital Vampire, its attitude.
HeadHunter Digital Vampire, no one gives a shit about you and your
raggy ass. You piece of shit, go find a different group to
try and take over.
IrnSteel Another group, as in Pirates with Attitudes?
DigiVamp Head Hunter, you are just mad because I want to make
something of MALiCE and you want to see it die. I dont want
to take over the group, I NEVER said that nor would I ever do
that.
HeadHunter Im mad because I know what kind of shit you really are.
DigiVamp I am willing to do my part to HELP.
Wintrhwk I have wanted to leave for quite a bit, I have been unhappy
in general. LeoDLion and I are constantly fighting for an
entire group and the strain has become unbearable.
Wintrhwk Dorian, Jake the Snake and Master Hacker are still running
this group. LeoDLion and I are independent right now, but
that does not mean we will stay independent. I am not
againint MALiCE nor anyone here. I would help any of you in
the future however I can, but LeoDLion and I deserved a lot
more respect than what we were getting.
Deathwind Agreed.
Wintrhwk People leave groups. MALiCE survived a big break up in
February. It will survive once more. Good luck to you all.
HeadHunter You guys just LOST 4 of the hardest working people and most
loyal people and it doesnt seem like anyone of you realize
that yet.
IrnSteel We lost them because they left. Im not in here to suck dick
so people decide to stay.
HeadHunter Iron Steel, you lost them cause they were the only ones
doing shit for the group.
IrnSteel I love Maggie, Winterhawk, like a sister. I dont know the
rest of the people who left very well. Neither you nor I
could have kept them from leaving...
Deathwind Head Hunter has a point Iron Steel.
IrnSteel Hey I run a BBS and do my part moving files in the 407 area
code. Dont give me that shit.
HeadHunter They put in 16 hours a day for MALiCE.
Deathwind Face it MALiCE fucked up.
HeadHunter Anyways, like I give a shit. I just wanted to voice my
opinions, something Im great at doing. They didnt leave
just because of today.
MastrHack They left because they were tired of busting their asses for
MALiCE and people where just bitching at them all the time.
IrnSteel Well some can be leaders, and some cant. What can I say
Master Hacker? This is all supposed to be fun.
Deathwind BULLSHIT Iron Steel, they worked their asses off and got no
credit for it.
HeadHunter Master Hacker, I hope you saw Digital Vampires attempt to
take over the group.
Deathwind Iron Steel get this straight, they were MALiCE, and without
them, the group is now nothing.
Frost This shit is really starting to suck. I dont know shit about
running a group, and I dont really give a fuck, but I sure know
that theres been enough fighting in this fucking channel today,
so why cant you guys just shut up for a while?
MastrHack I wish we could just somehow fix things. I dont like this
at all.

he group has gone through a lot of troubles in the past, but by far,
this is the biggest hurdle it has yet faced. As mentioned in the log
by Winterhawk, Dorian Hawkmoon and Jake the Snake, the leaders of MALiCE
are still with the group, and still in charge. However, the majority of
the group does not share in her optimism.

Subject : Drapper *BUSTED*
On Sunday, May 19th, RCN issue 14 was released on channel RCN at
approximately 9 pm Eastern Standard Time. Included in every issue of
RCN is a Warez-IQ test, and on this particular test, there included a
question as follows :
Drapper runs a FTP site from this well known college/university :
A. University of California Berkeley
B. Diablo Valley College
C. Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges
D. Massachusetts Institute of Technology
The correct answer to the above question is D. Drapper informed
RCN at 1:30 am of the next day that his FTP site called The Temple
was *BUSTED* by MIT personnel as a result of RCNs quiz question. In
theory, if what Drapper said was true, then it is safe to say that
within a timespan of 4 hours, the MIT personnel downloaded RCN issue
14, read the Warez-IQ Questions, and in shock, got a warrant to *BUST*
Drappers FTP site. It is also safe to assume that if Drappers story
was true, then the MIT personnel considers the information found in RCN
to be quite accurate, and accurate enough that they would bust someone
without consulting other possible references. Not only that, the MIT
personnel would have to had bust Drapper sometime between 9pm and 1:30am
on a Sunday night.
In reality, none of what Drapper said occurred. He was not busted,
and if his FTP site, The Temple, was not operative during the week,
its only because he took it down of his onw accord in a pathetic
attempt of winning peoples sympathy. Fortunately, people are smart
enough not to believe in his recently concocted story.
The following is a log file where Drapper is seen in channel RCN
threatening to libel against RCNs reputation :
Session Start : Mon May 20 01:30:55 1996
Drapper I am going to post everywhere that the RCN editors, Hitex and
Rebel Chicken, are narcs. And I am sure that people are more
inclined to trust a FTP site operator that has just been
busted rather than two lame RCN editors.
Chrome Drapper, from what Ive heard, you had other FTP site bust
problems even before RCN released issue 14.
Drapper The fact that I had deleted both Hitex and Rebel Chicken from
my FTP site must have pissed them off and driven them to narc
on me.
Hitex Drapper, lets just say this much, if you do start posting those
messages, then youre just going to end up looking stupid. Some
people are gullible, but most are not insane enough to believe
your story.
RblChickn Drapper, so MIT went over to your dorm at 12am in the
morning because they read RCN? If you just got busted, what
are you doing here chatting with me? Wouldnt they arrest
you or something?
Drapper Road Rebel, everyone will learn that the RCN editors are
narcs.
RoadRebel Hahhaha..
Drapper Thats all I have to say.
RblChickn Coolness! I guess MIT respects the Warez-IQ section of RCN
so much that they consider it evidence to bust their
students who run pirate FTP sites.
Hitex Drapper, I dont even care about getting on FTP sites.
RblChickn Im glad MIT security is so fast at getting RCN, it must
have spread really fast then, hey?
RoadRebel I wonder how the MIT guys did at the quiz?
RblChickn Yes, there must be a MIT read warez magazine to get
information security officer awake 24 hours a day on alert
for information they could use to bust their students. Wow,
an RCN quiz is as good as evidence or a warrant. Maybe I
should write an article saying OJ Simpson is guilty. You
think theyll put him on trial again?
Hitex They cant, double jeopardy prevents being tried for the crime
twice.
RoadRebel Hahaha...
Hitex Not only that, there are 3 other sites on MIT, why would they
look after you first? They would have to be quite witty at
that.
*** Drapper uknown@MILLY.MIT.EDU has left RCN
Chrome Drapper, if your FTP site went down, its because you were a
sloppy FTP site operator, not because of the Warez-IQ question
found in RCN issue 14.
Hitex Drapper, you also told me once a few months back that you got
busted when you just didnt want me on your FTP site. Your FTP
site was quite up, but lets assume that you were telling the
truth, and that it WAS busted a few months prior, youve
obviously fucked up before.
RATM Guys, Drapper left.
Hitex Drapper, not to mention that if they did catch you again today,
that it would be a second offense, which means that youll most
likely be expelled from MIT.
Hitex Oh :-
Session Close : Mon May 20 01:40:47 1996
Lets assume for a minute that Drapper did get busted in such a
short period of time. According to Hitex, this would have been his
SECOND offence, and as a result, he would unequivocably be expelled
from MIT. Since Drapper is not a U.S. citizen and is only living in
the U.S. through a student visa, it would not be far fetched to assume
that he has most likely also been deported out of the U.S. and back to
Greece, where he went to high school before attending MIT as a freshman.
Since he wont be living in the U.S. anymore, if you do happen to
bump into him on IRC, he will no longer be running a FTP site, and
his email address would no longer look anything like this :
*** Drapper uknown@MILLY.MIT.EDU has left USA
bust instead, it should read something like this :
*** Drapper ex-MIT@greece.GR has joined Greece
Lets all take a minute to give Drapper a farewell goodbye. RCN
apologizes for causing the bust of his FTP site The Temple. Hope you
like it in Greece buddy!!! See ya!!!

Subject : Pirate Boot Camp
This article is for all the newbie traders out there who would like
to jump to the next level in the scene but dont know what to do once
they get into a group. Thise article was written to help beginners
learn some of the tricks that more experienced couriers know. Most
traders learn this stuff from trial and error mostly error or with the
help of an older trader who acts as a tutor. I have to take the time
now to thank Ratz Blood and Ratphour for teaching me the ins and outs of
the scene. I would still be a Fatefiles whore if it were not for them.
Lets begin :
BBS Bulletin Board Service
Way back when the scene was not on the Internet, couriers were the
people who couriered warez from a HQ BBS to the distro sites. Some
phreaked the long distance, others carded the long distance. I dont
encourage carding since it is not only dangerous, but it could easily
get a newbie busted. Phreaking is no longer used. The best strategy
for a courier who wishes to mark his or her place in the scene would be
to get a local distro site for some courier group to sponsor you into
the group. Have the system operator bitch out a senior until he gives
you a chance. Get access to the leech sites and start and downloading
and and uploading. Its pretty simple.
BBS couriers on big BBSes where the competition is stiff usually get
a big hard drive quota on their shell account. Dont PPP download, FTP
site operators hate it, plus theres always the problem of having the
FTP site going down for a few minutes right before your transfer is
finished. A quota of about 80 - 130 megs will do you fine if youre
expecting some competition on the BBS. When you download from your
shell using the sz command at your prompt... sz *.zip go and have
a life. Keep keep track of when the download should be done. When you
upload to a popular BBS you can expect that some of the files you
leeched will already be on the BBS. The key to getting on the top ten
is for you to upload a lot of crap. Upload anything any everything you
can get your hands on. Most system operators dont even bother to look
at whats being uploaded Ive uploaded a Crayola Coloring Book once,
blah, nuff said. If your Internet provider is a bit expensive there is
a second trick to getting files. Just get a plain account at your ISP
and PPP telnet to another server using a hacked account with a huge
quota Netcom seems to be the most popular and fill up that shell.
Then PPP leech it at your convience. The transfer rates are a bit
slower, but its a lot cheaper. I dont encourage this, but it works.
BBS couriers usually have one advantage that FTP couriers dont
have. They get a ratio. After about 6 months of uploading, you should
have about 5 gigs of credit. With that, you can just sit back and leech
for eternity. BBS couriering is a low stress and high profile job
depending on the BBS that allows you to leech some fast stuff. This
is a good place for many couriers with a fast 33.6 modem and 200+ megs
free on their HD to start at. If you cant figure out how to find a
person to apply for a group, your best bet would be to talk to the
system operator of the BBS youre planning to courier for, or you could
sit on IRC and beg for invites into a channel.
IRC Internet Relay Chat
Go into Exceed, M8leech, THCfiles, or any of a zillion offer
channel where you see those Lame-DCC and 31337-DCC guys. Offering on
IRC takes no talent and I do not even consider it real couriering.
However, as IRC becomes more important to the scene and people flood
onto IRC. It might well become the new battle ground for groups when t3
PPP connects become available in your own home 20 years from now. A lot
of groups have their IRC couriers spreading the group name and their
presence among other lesser groups. The better groups dont usually
bother with offering since they focus on boards and sites. DCC offering
is a snap. At your IRC prompt type /xdcc offer and hit enter. Then
give the file names you wanna offer and then put in a description. When
you want the channel to see your harvest of goodies type /plist. I
recommend the Venom.IRC and Phoenix.IRC scripts for offering. Some
people have been using the aDCC commands of LiCE script lately. Use
whatever script looks nice to you. Set your minimum speed that you want
to transfer at with /xdcc minspeed. This way you can avoid some PPP
whore leeching from you for hours at slow rates. A minimum speed of 2
to 3 kbs should be enough to keep the PPP and slow shell people out.
The only danger to IRC couriering is Chris Carter. He is Narq
extraordinaire. He likes to hang out in Exceed and the WarezX
channels. Dont be surprised if you ISP admin tells you that the FBI is
after you or something. Chris Carter makes himself out to be a agent of
some law organization, but in reality he is only a lamer who sits down
at his computer and masturbates off of shareware. Tell your IRC
administrator that the man who mailed them is not an agent, he has no
jurisdiction, and that as a paying customer you would appreciate some
privacy. Most administrators give you a slap on the wrist and dont
care. One of my former administrators actually gave me a higher quota
cause he knew I was a trader youd be suprised how many ISPs have a
secret warez drive. Chris Carter has no power and he cannot do
anything to you. To avoid him you can use cracked shell accounts and
offer from those. Ive been Chris Cartered about 7 times in my career
and only one administrator freaked out. If your administrator is
actually suprised that pirates are the ones with the big HD quota, its
probabally time to find a new ISP. IRC offering is an easy and simple
way for small groups without FTP sites to move tagged files to the
public. Its not hard, and thus, has little glory in it.
I would like to thank Method Man who taught me everything about
scripts I know. Hes such a freak that he even runs his own client.
FTP File Transfer Protocol
If you enjoy instant satisfaction and like having something about 5
minutes before the rest of the scene, then FTP couriering is for you.
FTP couriering is either easy or hard depending on the sites you have
access to. If you put RiSC against fATE it would be a slaughter because
RiSC has a better FTP team and has some of the best sites on the planet.
I would suggest that a FTP courier gain access to at least 2 to 3 super
fast FTP sites and maybe 2 to 4 slower FTP sites where you can dominate.
The trick is to get on as many FTP sites as you can at first and then
work on getting onto the quality FTP sites. For maximum output, you
should have about 6 screens going at once and idling on the better
sites. Type ls every minute so you dont time out. Some FTP Couriers
have scripts that do it automatically. FTP couriering on fast sites can
be stressful after sitting at your terminal for about 5 hours and
looking at FTP sites to see if anything has come in the last few
minutes. A FTP courier must be on IRC and aware of group releases by
paying attention to the sites all the time. You have a window of about
5 minutes or less before it hits the super fast FTP sites. It takes
about 20 minutes for it hits the slower sites. After about 2 to 3 hours
its releasedd all over IRC and is offered in exceed. Software pirates
have one of the greatist non-profit orginizations on the planet. We can
release something and it hits the whole world within 3 hours.
FTP couriers usually use ncftp. Type ncftp at your unix prompt.
Type open -u -p xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx xxxx the -u means that it is not an
anonymous login and the -p means that there is a port if there isnt
one, dont type -p.
Once you get onto a FTP site, you will see that the directories are
listed according to date. If today was 11/06/95, Id go to the 1106
dir. Inside that directory I would see a ton of warez. Each release is
in its own directory that either looks like lotus.notes.for.crap.blah.
You will usually see the full title or at least enough so you could
figgure out what it is. Some groups like fATE do lame junk like adding
their groups name to the dir name fate-lamers.on.parade.full.cd.rip.
I dont encourage this since better FTP couriers frown on it as a form
of lame bragging. Most dont care what groups you are in. They are
only interested in the files. To get the files onto your shell you type
mget *.zip. To upload your new goodies type mput filename* to put
multiple files from your shell to the FTP site.
Remeber to use ncftp, the mput and mget commands will not work if
you type ftp xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx in your shell. When lamers type what
in the shell they can see the site numbers when you ftp
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and they might try to hack you. When running ncftp,
all they will see is that little ncftp flag. FTP couriering is a
quick way to get some warez and glory for your group. Board couriers
are a dime a dozen, a few good FTP couriers can make or break a group.
I would like to thank Ratz Blood and Weed who helped me when I was a
little baby FTP courier.
Telnet
There are a few telnet boards now adays, but this might change in
the future. Only traders with experience and who are known usually get
access to the good telnet boards. The basic tool for telnet couriering
is Ztel. It allows you to upload using Zmodem. To compile ztel.c on
linux and/or Sun/OS, type gcc -o ztel ztel.c. If you have any
problems just ask your ISP administrator Ztel is is freeware. Once
your Ztel is compiled type /home/path/ztel xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx xxxx. To
upload, go through the normal upload procedure and wait for the Zmodem
string. Type control-a then let go, then tap u. It will ask for
file names or processes. Type *.zip or whatever you want to upload.
Ztel will download automatically if you want to leech some SNES games
from Euro boards.
Heres where it gets a bit tricky. To use screen and ztel together
screen allows you to multitask in your shell you must type this when
you initialize your screen screen -e Tt.
I would like to thank Superior Force and Fortune for helping me
learn how to use Ztel and screen together.

Subject : Napalm FUCKS Up..
Lately, it seems that Napalm is dominating the games scene, with
their pure abundance of releases, not to mention the speed at which they
release them. There is one problem though, and we see it almost every
time there is a Napalm release. Napalm cant release a single thing
without some kind of problem with the game.
We all know about Napalms little problem, and we have all
complained about it at one time or another, but this article is not to
complain about Napalm, its to congratulate them.
Napalm has gotten so good at fixing problems, it seems that there is
a seperate fix for every game they release. Napalm is such an
EXTREMELY FAST releasing group, they almost always miss a problem with
the game the first time round. I criticized them for this before, and
now they have perfected the art of releasing. In other words, they
still release the game fast, and THEN they fix it, once everyone has it.
Its a great strategy, and because of it, you see Napalm outrunning
vetran groups such as Razor 1911 and Hybrid through sheer SPEED.
Whats more, it seems that lately, Napalm has gotten good at
covering ass, big time. You see, in the not so long ago release of
Lemmings Paintball, which was released by Hybrid, there was a CD check
that for some reason Hybrid failed to find. The most surprising part
though, was that Napalm almost instantly released a fix for Hybrids
mess, just like they do for their own releases. If you ask me, Napalm
is trying to prove themselves, and they are doing a VERY good job, dont
you think?

Subject : Macintosh Takeover???
On Wednesday, May 22, channel Warez666 was taken over. It looked
like a pretty nice takeover from what I could see. The takeover was
planned beforehand with extreme care. The people who took over the
channel setup bots which changed handles every 5 seconds, in order to
avoid being flooded. What made it even more strange was that these
people who took over the channel have never before been seen in the
warez scene.
Beware, if you run a channel for a group or for private use, you
might be the next one to feel their takeover wrath. The following is
a series of log files from the scene of the takeover :
Session Start : Wed May 22 22:18:20 1996
Kang Who are you?
Chainz Im the new owner of Warez666.
Kang Where are you guys from?
Chainz We are Macintosh users that hate channels run from Windows.
Kang Are you kidding?
Chainz Why would I lie?
Kang Actually, the channel bots ran under Unix. Can I have ops?
Chainz No, I know you are cool with the old owners of Warez666.
Kang I am surprised your Macintosh hasnt frozen yet.
Chainz Watch your ass.
Kang You know, the old owners WILL get the channel back. My bet is
that it will be very soon.
Chainz Shut up now, or I will boot your ass and ban you. So fuck off.
Kang Go ahead, the old owners will have the channel back in no time.
Session Close: Wed May 22 22:45:00 1996
Session Start: Wed May 22 22:45:29 1996
TheThief If I had time I would get the channel back.
Kang How did the takeover occur?
TheThief They spoofed Pickels IP who was a Warez666 operator.
Kang Where are these takeover freaks from?
TheThief I have no idea.
Session Close : Wed May 22 22:58:19 1996
Session Start : Wed May 22 22:27:10 1996
AoxomoXoA I used to be a Warez666 channel operator, but we got taken
over. We didnt hold the channel that long for nothing.
Well be back.
Kang Are you guys going to relocate to a different channel?
AoxomoXoA I dont think so. We are powerful. Well take the channel
back.
Kang Are you guys secretly planning a takeover and retaliation?
AoxomoXoA No.
Kang Why not? How are you guys going to get the channel back?
AoxomoXoA I dont know.
Session Close: Wed May 22 22:58:20 1996
I spoke with Spawn666 who is a fellow THC The Hardened Criminals
member and a Warez666 operator. I was informed that the old Warez666
operators were not planning to take back the channel. They were just
idling, waiting for the new operators to make a mistake. An hour after
the take over, the new operators started to ping timeout one after the
other. The new operators kicked nearly everyone out of the channel and
set it to +i. When the bot ping timed out, the old operators flooded
the others off and took the channel. It was only a matter of hours
before the channel was taken back.
You might say, Who cares? Its like a fly on an elephants ass.
But the point is that no matter how elite you may be, everyone screws up
sometimes. None of the Warez666 ops wanted to talk after the fact.
The Trader, from fATE Fast Action Trade Exchange, informed me later
that day that the takeover was due to Pickels having been spoofed by a
Macintosh user. Warez666 is a good channel once more, owned by IBM
elites.

The following is an excerpt from the letter spread by the late Tai Pan
on May 19, 1996 :
As of today my role as a courier for ROR Release on Rampage, RTS
Request to Send, and MTY Mortality has been cut short. Since
February, I have been making long distance calls using extrapolated
credit card numbers fake. In May, ATT finally caught on and
backbilled me for about 1000. My parents were not too pleased with
this and since it was the second time I was caught, decided to revoke my
online access. My data line, Internet provider, CompuServe account, and
shell account have all been cancelled and my modem will be taken out of
my computer in 3 hours.
The moral of this story is DONT CARD! Since everyone knows that
option is ridiculous at least be careful. But seriously, try and trade
like Stingray6 from your office. They pick up the bill and its
LEGAL. It has been fun everyone! Ill be around on TAR, PC, and
666-KILL for those who want to leave me a message. However, I wont
trade anymore unless I can find a way to do it outside my house. I
shall return to the scene in about a year when Im in college. So until
then, keep on trading and keep the scene alive!
Signed,
Tai Pan
What can I say? Tai Pan, the scene will miss you.. your tenacity is
admired by us all.. you just keep coming back bust after bust like a
pirate energizer bunny. See you next year!

Subject : DVD Digital Video Discs
DVD players will make their debuts as movie playback machines and
recordable DVD-ROM drives for PCs. A technology as new as DVD is
typically too expensive to be of interest to console manufacturers such
as Nintendo and Sega, but all the major PC manufacturers are watching
DVDs approach with varying degrees of interest.
Support for DVD from the dedicated game machine manufacturers,
however, is not entirely enthusiastic, and is sure to change the warez
scene in the future. Shortly after the DVD movie player hits the
market, the first DVD-ROM drives will ship for the PC. Initially, these
drives are expected to retail for somewhere between 400 and 600. With
a storage capacity of 4.7 gigabytes versus CD-ROMs which hold 0.65
gigabytes and vastly increased data transfer rates, the DVD-ROM will
offer developers the chance to produce titles with broadcast-quality
video and surround-sound audio. In addition to the more immersive sound
and video, the increased storage capacity will enable the developers to
place more levels and/or more complex databases in their titles. As
titles released onto the market use the DVD as a standard format, we
will be sure to see meggage of the releases by warez groups increase in
size. Instead of 30 disk releases, we might be in wait for 300 disk
releases. However, we need not fear, as technology for storage
capacities increase, so will the technology for fiber optic connections,
thus increasing transfer speeds.
Like CD-ROM and CD-dependent game machines, there will be no real
difference in the physical make-up between the DVD-ROM drives available
for the PCs, and DVD-ROM drives will eventually become part of dedicated
game machines. When will DVD game machines appear? In general, it
seems that the gaming manufacturers are content to wait on the sidelines
for now and to let the folks on the PC side struggle with early
compatibility and pricing issues. As DVD-ROM drives become available to
a larger audience, we are sure to see DVD-ROM pirate libraries that
would be able to hold close to a 500 to 800 games.
Last, but not least, is the possibility of a DVD audio disc. The
majority of current audio CDs, like many games on CD, do not use the
entire space on their current media, and so the demand for DVD audio
discs is almost nonexistent. The opportunity exists, however, to do
more with audio DVD, especially if it is compatible with the recordable
DVD-ROM drive. If those capabilities come to fruition, people will be
able to record hours of digital audio onto a disc at their discretion.
In that sense, the DVD audio and DVD-ROM would elevate the disc medium
to a place that the CD never evolved to en masse : serving as mass
storage medium.
So far, the only DVD spec that has been released is one general and
vague outline for both the DVD movie player and DVD-ROM drive. Although
it is somewhat vague, the spec does revel the basic parameters and
technologies of DVD. Its 4.7 gigabytes storage capacity is certainly a
considerable improvement over the 0.65 of CD-ROMS, as is its 4.69
megabits-per-second average transfer rate a single speed CD-ROM player
reads datat at a rate of just 0.15 megabits-per-second. This
improvement in performance, however, will require additional processing
muscle in the host machine to handle all the data. Consumer DVD movie
players will need to include MPEG2 and AC3 audio decoding solutions, and
it is anticipated that nothing short of a Pentium 166 MHz will make full
use of a DVD-ROM player for a PC.
Perhaps DVDs main advantage will be in the fact that the option
exists to make the discs recordable. Some companies have said that they
are working to make their first DVD-ROM drives off the production line
recordable. And erasable DVD-ROMs, if they arent shipped initially,
are expected to ship on an OEM Original Equipment Manufacture basis
soon after. Another issue to be ironed out is whether or not the discs
will be able to store data on just one side or both sides of the disc.
In the original specs, the discs were planned to be two sided. However,
the two-sided configuration was being considered only as possible.
Of course, the whole issue of price is perhaps the major hurdle
still to be negotiated by those wishing to rush DVD to the market. And
once it does hit the market, we can see that BBSes with the DVD
technology will be able to offer a far greater library of downloads than
the BBSes which do not yet have DVD. Whatever the price, DVD is
guaranteed to change the face of the warez scene. Whatever the specs of
the DVD, no one really knows whether it will be the warez scene killer,
or a new device that will revolutionize the warez scene.

Subject : Console Warez
For many years, PC users have strived to run software on their
computer that wasnt ever meant to be run software from other
platforms. You may have seen several of these emulators, in which you
can play your favorite Super NES game in a little window on your
desktop. Because you are running something foreign on your computer,
many things must be given up, such as sound effects, music, and your
favorite joypad. Why do we want to play them then? Maybe we just miss
a favorite game we had, or maybe we just want to prove that it can be
done, but it seems kind of stupid when you think about it, doesnt it?
Even though the emulators that run console warez is fairly new, the
history of console warez is a long one. You see, a long time ago, if
you wanted to run a copied Super NES, or Gameboy game, you needed an
actual console to run them hence the name, and a cartridge drive
that accepted Super NES or Gameboy cartridges. At one point in time,
this was such a popular thing, there were actually groups devoted to
bringing in console warez, just as there are groups that bring in new PC
software everyday.
Even still, you have to wonder why they did all this. After all, we
all have a PC, and there are great games released everyday that make
some Super NES games blow mega farts. Now, with emulators that actually
work, the fad to play them is even greater, and you can pick up a game
pack just about every month.
For those of you who love to piss with emulators, here is some
information to get you going. The only working Super NES emulator for
PC is for Windows 95, and it was originally released in Japanese or some
other funky language, but there are numerous versions that have been
translated so that they are understandable. The version that works
supports only the .SFC extension Super FamiCom. Beware that there are
very many other types of Super NES image files for the console drives,
and that if you come across one SMC, SNS, etc. you should find
yourself a program called CTOOL that will convert the file to the one
you need. If you ever encounter a Super NES game broken down like this
kinstnct.1, kinstnct.2, etc., CTOOL will also combine these files so
that they will become one kinstnct.sfc.
There is a Gameboy emulator for both Windows 95 and DOS, both of
which work quite well much more stable then the Super NES emulator,
and they both support the only extension I know of .GB. So you should
have no problem playing Wario Land in black and white.. or should you?
You still wont get any sound, and chances are, your game will freeze in
the middle, right when you are just getting into it. It doesnt seem
worth it, but it doesnt stop you from trying.
Lets all play Lameboy games on a 3000 computer! Hooray!

Hello, and welcome to Reality Check Networks all new group review!
Here I will be reviewing the six best games release groups in the scene.
Well, actually, *I* wont be the one reviewing them, *THEY* will be!
Its all up to the groups, this is where quantity DOES count, but you
will soon enough find that quality by far outweighs quantity. Lets
review the criteria Ill be using for judging releases. The following
is the scoring basis Ill be using :
Points :
-3 The game didnt work and a crack/fix was not released within 72
hours. The group may regain the 3 lost points by releasing a crack
or fix, even beyond the 3 day period.
1 The game was a dupe or freeware,
2 Unsatisfactory,
3 Average,
4 Above Average, and
5 Excellent!
A group may lose points the following week and have their releases
labeled as broken thus receiving the proper amout of points. If the
group has released a fix between the two issues, well give them credit
accordingly. If a group releases a fix within a 3 day period, the
game will be rated as if it worked in the first place, thus getting the
3 points it lost back and any points it would have earned. If a group
releases a fix after the 3 day period has expired, it will receive its 3
points back, but get no more. Betas may receive no more than 3 points.

Subject : Group Reviews : Utils
Hello, and welcome to Reality Check Networks all new group review!
Here I will be reviewing the six best utils release groups in the scene.
Points :
-3 The util didnt work and a crack/fix was not released within 72
hours. The group may regain the 3 lost points by releasing a crack
or fix, even beyond the 3 day period.
1 The util was a dupe or freeware,
2 Unsatisfactory,
3 Average,
4 Above Average, and
5 Excellent!
A group may lose points the following week and have their releases
labeled as broken thus receiving the proper amout of points. If the
group has released a fix between the two issues, well give them credit
accordingly. If a group releases a fix within a 3 day period, the
util will be rated as if it worked in the first place, thus getting the
3 points it lost back and any points it would have earned. If a group
releases a fix after the 3 day period has expired, it will receive its 3
points back, but get no more. Betas may receive no more than 3 points.

d e a r r o a d r e b e l !
Welcome to Dear Road Rebel! This is going to be YOUR column that is
a cross between Dear Abby and Dave Berry. The most important part of
this is YOUR participation. If you have ever had a question about the
scene or just a comment, heres the place! Have you ever wanted to know
why some people do this or that? ASK! I would love to take it to the
extreme for you and we will be happy to research it! I hope you have as
much fun with this as I will! Remember, this is YOUR column!
Dear Road Rebel,
The BBS scene pimped on the Internet scene. It was so much more
interesting to be in! I mean getting stuff around in 0-2 day was HARD!
It took skilled couriers. I think the Internet ruined everything.
Signed,
Koon Dog
Dear Koon Dog,
I think youre very right, the BBS scene involved much more skill.
People would spend countless hours logging onto boards around the world
to get new releases so they could put everything around the world and
get all the releases out. But why do you think the Internet ruined
EVERYTHING? I think it raised the competition that much higher. Now
people really have to try hard to get places before others do. When the
Internet wasnt around, the competition was not to get stuff around
faster than anybody else, but to get stuff around at all. Now, we have
so many great couriers and they all try to push the same stuff to the
same place, and people lose by mere seconds. I think that makes things
that much harder. But of course, it is not who does it first, its who
does it right, and it could quite easily be said that much of todays
scene is filled with bad releases that dont work.
Signed,
Road Rebel
Dear Road Rebel,
The Internet has fixed some things and fucked up other things.
Couriers are having a ball now trying to do things before others.
However, like you say, there are some new problems. Many boards are
getting partial releases and that doesnt help anybody. It makes the
courier look bad and then makes the group look stupid. Ultimately, it
lowers the quality of the board.
Signed,
Zero Prime
Dear Reader,
I think you bring out an interesting point. The scene is currently
in a transition regarding the Internet and the BBS scene. The Internet,
I think, will end up prevailing, but while were making this transition
from BBS to Internet, the two are clashing. Were going from one
resource that can push a meg per second, to a resource that pushes no
more than 3k per second. Thats a huge bottleneck, and one that will be
resolved as soon as we start getting BBSs running on private T1s and
Cable modems. Until then, the bottleneck will still slow us down. As
soon as the transition is complete, the scene will breathe a fresher
air.
Signed,
Road Rebel
Topic For Next Week : Week Old Group
As always, we see about three new groups a week, and about three
more die every week. However, none of these groups grow beyond 2 or 3
releases. Every once in a while, if were lucky, the group ends up
releasing on a regular basis. Sounds like a winner, right? Wrong.
Most often, the groups releases dont work, are uncracked, or even
incomplete. One would think, in theory, that new groups cant hurt
anything. Sure, there could be too many of them, and they take up time,
but if they release, theyre helping the scene. However, this is hardly
the case.
The situation has become so bad that now, when one finds a release
that he wants, he must check twice to see what group released it.
Often, if the group is not a megafigure such as DOD or PWA, Razor or
Dynamix, he wont even download it, for fear of wasting an hour of his
time just to find that what he downloaded doesnt even work. So, whats
the alternative for the hopefuls to get big in the scene? What do you
think these small groups are doing to the scene as a whole? Do you
think they benefit it, or inhibit its success? Do you think their
releases, even though small in number, are worth downloading? Do you
trust them? Write back and tell us what you think!
Please E-Mail all responses to an385786@anon.penet.fi.

The following details your forecasts depending on your astrological
sign. Each sign designates your personal lucky numbers of the week.
The following specific areas of focus include those of love and warez :
Aries Visiting a few different IRC channels is stimulating. Your mind
is working fast and you are ready to join some big groups.
Being with a variety of people is exhilarating.
Taurus You may be going over your budget on computer software to
determine whether or not you are extravagant. Pirate more.
You might be trying to save your money for a major purchase
such as a new ISDN modem.
Gemini It could be difficult week to stay focused. If you are a
courier on short errands, make a list to keep youve couriered
and fortune will be nearby.
Cancer You will find a partner of the same sex on IRC that will
entertain you sexually. Each of you is in a mood for lively
IRC chat. Your art of conversation will a strategic plus in
attacing a lot of faggots.
Leo You feel like a LION, your nerves are jumping out of your skin.
This is not a good time to quit groups. Too much thinking will
give you a big headache. Uploading without downloading is going
to exhaust you. Go get some rest.
Virgo You might be excited about going out on a date with someone you
recently met. Dont be, this person is not interested in
talking to you.
Libra You could be hoping to get a raise in position within a warez
group. When you dont get good news, it may be time to join
another group.
Scorpio Your mind is imagining a wonder escape to a faraway place.
Prolonged periods of time on channel Gaysex could be a
valuable learning experience and a fun-filled adventure.
Sagittarius You can enjoy going to a group channel that is usually +i.
Have fun creating a romantic atmosphere in that channel,
and you might pass along some of your good feeling energy.
Capricorn Lucky news can come at a time when you need it most. Dont
act undeserving, or ask too many questions why god things
should be happening to you. Enjoy it!
Aquarius Dont be defensive if you make a mistake on IRC. Nobody
cares. Stay focused on getting it done right. Nobody is
perfect, not even guys from Napalm. Well, Napalm is a little
more less perfect than most, but if Napalm can learn, so can
you!
Pisces Getting into better physical shape is a possible desire.
Finding discipline is the challenge. Get off your computer and
go excercise masturbation is not considered exercise, go jog
a mile!

dig up like, if hes a queer or something. Information concerning
Chris Carter will only be published in this E-Zine if proven true. Any
information on this person will be greatly appreciated. Let the narc

Please email all responses to an385786@anon.penet.fi.. The

Subject: Software Piracy from x@x.x.x
Dear John Doe:
I have found a user in your Internet domain who plays a large role
in the distribution of copyrighted software on the Internet. This user
uses the nickname Ordinance, and uses the account x@x.x.x.. He/she
is a member of an underground group called RTS. This group is
dedicated to the transfer of illegal commercial software to a large
audience of users on the Internet. They use the most efficient and
fastest methods possible.
The user was seen on IRC at exactly: Sun Apr 28 02:04:41 1996 EDT.
In an effort to stop software piracy on the Internet, I have been
monitoring various groups of users on the Internet Relay Chat network.
This medium of communication has become very popular with warez
pirates who exchange commercial software illegally. On the IRC network,
groups of people come together to use sophisticated methods to
distribute commercial software to literally thousands of users. With
such large scale distribution methods, the software industry is losing
millions of dollars.
I have no direct evidence to show you that this user is
participating in illegal activities. But I can direct you to where
evidence can be found. If you are permitted to do so, I suggest that
you take a brief scan of the users home-directory and check for any
suspicious files. If you cannot do this, I recommend that you keep a
close eye on this user and watch for any unusual activities. Please
take whatever action is appropriate in dealing with these matters as
stated in your organizations Internet Policy Agreement or Network
Etiquette Policy.
Thank you for taking the time to read through this message. And
thank you for any assistance you can give to help resolve this matter.
Your time and help is greatly appreciated and I give you my full
gratitude.
Thanks again,
Chris Carter

I believe this user, Chris Carter, is violating numerous laws, to
include guidelines set forth by the Electronic Frontier Foundation
EFF. His means of monitoring are clearly illegal in the United
States. He is known to use hacked accounts, send false mail, hide his
address, monitor channels in IRC through stealth modes - his presence
not visible to users of the channels. He is also making great
accusations with no evidence causing undue harassment and libel. Undue
conflict between user and administrator and possibly resulting in the
loss of accounts, if not involvement by state/local/federal authorities.
Chris Carters tactics seem to be strategic and premeditative in nature,
a direct attack on the reputation of whomever he chooses to harass.
It is encouraged that the unethical and unlawful behavior of Chris
Carter be stopped, to protect privacy, freedom of speech, reputations of
the innocent and prevent him from abusing any other computer systems
through subversive and/or illegal hacking methods.
Chris Carter certainly gets around. Upon mention of his name, many
people have spoken out in outrage at his actions and methods. This
e-mail is a collective result of concerned citizens in both the United
States and abroad. To my knowledge, there are seven other instances of
such accusations sent via e-mail with no support.
Upon contact, a system administrator from the first provider has
stated that they have checked the files of the user in question,
permissible by a written legal form signed by the account purchaser, and
have not found a single thing of illegal nature. Why is this violation
of privacy necessary due to the likes of Mr. Carter, who does not seem
to respect the rights of innocent people? One must wonder whether
Carters basis for these accusing messages has anything to do with the
reason of software piracy as Carter states. If so, his observations
are error-prone.
The second provider involved has not commented.
Thank you for your time and, hopefully, support. Chris Carter is a
criminal by any standards and must be dealt with by legal means before
spreading more harm among the Internet community.

Hitex .. and I score again!!!
RblChickn Dammit Hitex, how do you do this? You got to teach me some
of your tricks man. How do you get all these girls to go
out with you? Im fairly desperate these days, I only have
2 weeks left of school now and I havent even scored yet.
Youre only a junior and youve already scored with TONS...
Hitex I scored big time last night, it was with a SENIOR..
RblChickn WOW!!! No way, dam youre good bro!!! What was she like?
Hitex I dont think youll like her though Rebel Chicken, remember,
everyone has different tastes.
RblChickn Well, I still havent had too much to taste, Id do anything
to taste some right about now. Hey, how far did you go with
this senior chick?
Hitex ALL the way, the whole 9 yards..
RblChickn Spare me no details!
Hitex I dont think it would be wise, Id rather not dwell in the
details of my private life. Suffice to say, I got a handful,
and it lasted til dawn.
RblChickn Awww.. come on.. not even for me? Do you have a picture of
her anywhere? Can you send me over a picture of her, or
maybe I could just go over to your school next week,
whichever is easier for you.
Hitex I think sending you a picture of the girl will be easier. Im
not sure if I could get a guest pass in such a short notice, but
Ill try. Itll be hard getting you a guest pass though since
my Principal rarely gives out guest passes. Ill try. Anyways,
I always keep pictures of girls Ive gone all the way with. I
can send you the GIF of this senior chick, its from the year
book from last year when she was a junior. Ill also send you
the chick I went all the way with last year...
RblChickn You never told me you went all the way more than once! Dam
Hitex! What have you been hiding from me.. youve probably
buffed more than 2 and youre just trying not to brag. You
think itll make me feel bad so youre trying not to hurt my
feelings.. tell me more, send me the GIFs!!!
Hitex Okay...

The other day, I was sitting in the can of a public restroom, and
among the scribbles on the wall, I noticed something that meant
something to me. Somebody had etched the words PiL 96 !! on the wall
with a black marker while taking a shit. I sat there and thought, and
thought.. then I wondered if these were actually the scribbles of a
member of Pirates in Legion, the present but forgotten utils group. Or
I suppose it could have been a VERY happy fan, but who knows. All that
thinking encouraged me to stay on the can and think some more.
All this thinking led me to think about the importance of group
names. When thoughts come about a group like fATE, do you think of the
meaning behind it? Somebody put a lot of thought into that name maybe
they were on the can like me, and it brings importance to the group.
The word fATE alone can make you think about alot of things, but the
underlying meaning is still Fast Action Trade Exchange.
Other names that we know of, such as PWA, or even COPS, makes one
laugh when we think of the meaning. I know Im not the only one who
thinks Pirates with Attitudes is just a little cheezzzy, let alone
Couriers of Pirated Software. But we look and we laugh, after all, we
cant let the scene get too serious now, can we?
A few more minutes of shitting led me to think about the importance
of handles. There are some funny names of groups out there, and I
realzied that could extend outside the spectrum of mere group names.
Many handles of the people in the scene are equally ridiculous.
For example, if you can recall the handle of Fan Fan La Tulipe, the
late President of TDU-JAM!, or our very own RCN editor, Rebel Chicken.
Both these names are extremely ridiculous, but none the less, its not
the name that really matters, its whats backed by it. You could call
yourself ABC or 123 if you really wanted to, and it wouldnt make a
difference, its not your handle thats important, the important matter
is the substance that backs it up. And the same can be said for groups,
you could start a group called RWN, Raisins with Nuts, but if that group
releases consistent quality or couriers in a fashion revolutionizing to
the scene, then that group will receive the recognition and respect it
deserves regardless of its cheezzzy name.

The bell rings. I am faster than the bell, I had packed my bag 20
seconds prior. As I was walking toward my next class, I couldnt help
but notice that to my left was Emily, I think of her as this really
stupid blonde girl, and Hitex thinks of her as pimple face.
Oh God, please tell me Emily doesnt see me, I dont feel like
talking to anyone right now, especially not her. May be I can just
mingle to the right of the hallway and hide behind some freshman. The
day is not going well. The stupid blonde girl greets me and starts
small talk. I am extremely agitated and I wish that shed just leave me
alone. I can see that she starts her conversations the same way every
single time, no matter who shes talking to. In fact, everyone from my
high school talks the same. Everyone says the same thing, the same way,
and by far, I am as guilty of that as anyone else. I can read their
minds and I perceive that what they say and what they feel are as
different as night and day. I show interest in what she says. I smile.
I nod my head. I smile again, and I wish to myself that she would shut
up.
Now Im really in trouble, our conversation has superseded the
usual How are you doing and the Im doing great bullshit, and shes
going out of her routine small talk. She asks me a question. Even
though I have no idea what her question is, I try my best to reply. I
give her the no fuss answer, Wow, thats cool.
I see her lips move up and down again, but I have no idea what the
hell shes saying. She pauses and smiles. I see her smile and so I
smile back, and I assume that it is time for me to reply, so I say to
her, Wow, that is REALLY REALLY cool.
Suddenly, I grow very confused. I start asking myself questions I
have never even thought of before. I know that these questions I am
asking myself have always been part of me, but it is only now that I am
allowing them to surface. I ponder.
Why cant she just be herself? I know she is not very fond of me.
Why is she acting like shes my friend. I dont even know her that
well the only reason link I have to her is that I sit next to her in my
English IV class, I hardly doubt thats a basis for friendship. Is she
acting nice because its othe cool thing to do? And, why cant she
stop talking, she is becoming very annoying. She asks me another
question, this time, I dont know what to do. To think that I used to
want to go out with her, yuck.. what the hell was I thinking?
A part of me speaks, the part of me that stems from archaic roots
takes over. I will have to sacrifice dearly, but today, I will let my
dark side take over. In a matter of 20 seconds, I will destroy the
nice guy image I had worked so hard building up these last 4 years. I
was good at deceiving people, I got them all to think that I was a nice
guy. Not this time though, I dont really care anymore. I choose to
come out of the closet, so to speak, Im going to just be myself. I say
to her in my own tone, without smiling, What the fuck is wrong with
you? Cant you tell that I have absolutely no fucking interest in what
youre saying to me? I said it really loud, and nearly everyone in the
hallway stops to look at me. I feel very embarrassed, but I dont care,
I am having fun.
Unfortunately, one of the people who hears me yell at the stupid
blonde girl, was the Principal. The Principal rushes to me and puts his
hand on my back. He asks me why I was acting so agitated, and asks me
whether or not I needed to go to the nurses office. The Principal must
think Im mentally unstable. Well, Im NOT crazy, Im just elite. I
tell him that I am not crazy, and that I was merely acting natural, I
couldnt take it anymore. The bitch was too annoying, I only did that
which was necessary to prevent mental collapse. I havent been myself
for nearly 4 years now. I dont want to fall into that trap again, like
before, I didnt want to end my conversation without showing her who I
really was. I dont regret any of what I did.
The Principal slaps on my back a pink sheet. On that pink sheet, I
read, Two hours detention. I shrug and I start walking back toward my
next class, I feel free, free again, free at last, and once again, I
here a voice saying, I dont regret any of what I did.
