on releasing these minicollys, just to clear out my /crap directory
every so often... you know?

Well, ive been reading alot latly about the future of the scene, or
at least what people think/hope/regret it to be. Id agree with people that
say our scene is going nowhere fast, if it werent for the fact that I know
we could all change it so easily. The key here is bbsing, notice I didnt
say bbses, there are still plunty of them, but there are so few bbsers that
the ones that are still around unfortunitly wont be for long.
Many of you know, I run a bbs modding group, which some people in the
art scene regard as rather funny, because bbses are dead, right? Then why
the fuck are you guys in the scene at all? Hasnt it ever occurred to you
that ansi is for bbses? Noone draws for them anymore, they only draw for
other artists, and groups, and most artists cant keep a board up for more
then a week, in which they probably change the name of it 20 times. If
someone does want an ansi for their bbs, and theyre not an artist, then
they get greeted with a price and a bad attitude, another reason why ansi is
dying.. nothing to draw for, but its mostly the artists faults. Its not
just the art scene being disassociated with bbses, I saw a warez release the
other day where the fileid.diz was named wrong, and it was even one of the
bigger groups. *sigh*
So what do we do? Telnet boards are far to slow, and telnet its self
isnt exactly the best thing in the world, and noone wants to get off of the
internet for long enough to call a real board, most of which are long
distance to everyone else. I dont care, I dont like paying for it, but
keeping bbsing alive is worth a little phone bill to me. Well, theres not
many new bbs softwares around, but theres a shit load of older ones sitting
around gathering dust that you could play around with, no matter how bad they
are, that was the point of modding in the first place, take a crappy software
and make it impressive, something to brag about.
Its quite simple though, as people stop using bbses, bbses go down,
as bbses go down, so do modding and art groups. It wouldnt be at all hard
to reverse the process, even if it just meant calling an ld board once a
month, or actually taking requests for art... All the complaints and articles
out there like this one dont do a damn thing unless people will actually
respond to them and do something about it... jp@xtn.net
