Session Start: Fri Jan 14 19:06:23 2000
*** Towerx has joined demojournal
ps hello there : so who is towerx? :
Towerx yo ps! me! the one and only! :
ps ok, but say that in real life terms
Towerx im a musician from hungary, writing traxx for astral,
psyonic labs, digital lights and the ancient gods
ps what is your name and age and shoe size?
shoe size is the important thing!
Towerx : okay, okay my size is...ehhm...i think it is around 45-46
Maxim Kuznyecov is my real name and im 18 years old little
boy
ps so how did you started into tracking?
Towerx hehe, my favourite question, ive started tracking in 1996
it was a fatal accident ive asked one of my friends for
a mixing program instead of that he gave me Ft2
hehe, i still remeber my first tracks: ive listened to
them a week ago:
ps were they any good? :
Towerx hmmm...the very first track was a remix of an fun demo
soundtrack called tompika:
you can imagine...
* ps doesnt want to know what that means in hungarian
* Towerx thinks it is a lame name of an silly, fat, funny boy
ps you been giving away quite alot of tracks for demoparties
across europe, how many average tracks do you do per month?
Towerx i used to write 2 or 3 tracks each month,
but since summer im very busy with my studies:
now i try to make at least one music every month
anyway it depends on the inspiration or maybe a new
astral demo:
ps what demos did you do soundtracks for?
Towerx i did the soundtrack for the first astral demo
conduction, it wasnt so good 6th place at scenest98
in 1999 i did music for all the 3 accelerated astral
demos - alpha, beta and alpha2
ps what style of music do you track?
Towerx it depends on my actual mood:
i think i am an allrounder so i track in many styles,
ps what are your favorites then?
Towerx my favorites are hard/goa/psi trance, melodic ballads and
all kinds of dnb/breakbeat
my second group - Psyonic Labs is a typical trance crew
ps your the dude who did those big mixes of tdr songs..
those were dope.. when is the 3rd mix coming out? :
Towerx hahaha: i was waiting this question:
ps D so answer it
Towerx : as i have told you im a bit busy with my studies
but im planning to release it in a month, i would like to
make something special:
this time it will be released in mp3 format, ill mix more
tracks
ps nnnnnoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Towerx more styles included
ps ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Towerx ... why?
* ps paniqs
ps my HD has 30megs free. i dont have a cd burner
Towerx whats the matter with mp3?
ps !!!!! ITS BIG!!!!!
Towerx hey, what do you think, how will i mix other mp3
releases???: prymer, k303, dinimes and others latest
tracks.. if you want i could do a special downsampled
version especially for you!:
ps sample them and play them on the .xm ? :D
Towerx okay!: ill dedicate it to you!:
* ps kisses towerx for that
ps poof.. you almost gave me an heartattack a while back there
well.. time for quiz show contest? are you ready to answer
questions? :
Towerx be careful, the ambulance is on its way: oh
as you wish:
ps 1. what is your favorite color?
Towerx i suppose blue
ps 2. what is the capital of madagascar?
Towerx antananarivo, right?: we have studied it in the school
a month ago:
ps 3. what is the biggest mammal living?
Towerx deeply in the ocean...the whale
ps 4. how much is a fathom in the metric system?
Towerx which metric system?: english/european/american/chinese?:
ps there is only 1 metric system, its equal for all :
like the one we use on europe :
ps 5. what do you think about leopards?
Towerx nice creatures...but i still prefer my persian cat:
ps so what are your inspirations for tracking?
Towerx everything what happens to me in my life, emotions are very
important! i think i would die without emotions and music!
they are the essence of my life:
ps what kind of music do you listen yourself?
Towerx i listen everything what i manage to get, for example now
im listening the radio - newest club and dance tracks, but
yesterday one of my friends gave me some manOwar tapes,
later ill check out some new dnb mixes, and my favourite
- astral projections albums
ps what about scene wise, what are your favorite composers?
Towerx favorites...i like the music and not the favorites,
because everyone could make none-quality tracks wich could
disappoint me,
ps well.. what are your favorite songs then? :
Towerx okayokay: i love the tribes soundtracks falcon+scorpik,
skaven/purple motion tunes, the dnb tracks released at TDR
trauma/dubius demo soundtracks - especially gateways part2
traven, lluvia, carlos are very good composers with not
ordinary styles, i like their musics
ps what are your favorite demos and intros out there?
Towerx astral accelated demos!: haujobb and replay intros are
suberb, a little hungarian group - crysalis is doing
groundbreaking intros lately
ps hehe : oh yeah, lets talk about hungary for a little..
ps what is happening with hungarian demoscene nowdays?
Towerx okay: its becoming even smaller tomcat: dont hit me!:
i was at the last two parties, what do you think about a
democompo where two or one demo compete?
it was terrible: i dont understand, the old hugarian
groups are in quiet, they dont release almost anything...
this is more than sad..
ps ok, so what advise would you give to new musicians out
there starting to track? to see if we can get some new
people in here
Towerx hehe: practise as much as possible, check out all the new
scene-tracks, learn the techniques from these musics
try to be more creative, and if you rip samples give
credits: right Hazel?:
ps so, last question now.. want to say hi to anyone? or ask
yourself a question? :
Towerx first i would like to ask you some questions:
do you have any pets?
ps no i dont ... wait a minute!
but im the the interviewer here!!!
Towerx : *adv*, what about trax00?: are you going?
ps yes im going : are you?
Towerx i would like to, but it seems well send a demo instead
of me: do you have any parties in portugal this year?
ps probably not, but some kids in portugal are thinking they are
sceners.. maybe there will be one this year.. who knows? :
ok.. enough of this talk.. give us some homepage addresses
and your email : its 20:15.. im hungry
Towerx should i dcc you a cake?:
ps no, you should answer my questions so i can go eat :P grrrr
Towerx oh yes: i dont have a homepage yet, but if you are
interested you can download my tunes from:
ftp://astral.scene.hu/astral/TowerX/
and leech down trance tracks from:
ftp://astral.scene.hu/psyonic/
bomb me with mails at: maxim@silicondreams.hu
ps ok, so i hereby conclude this interview
Towerx *drumroll*

! demo !
FALLequalsWINTER by Replay party-version
Found at www.scene.org
2nd place at The Party99, non-accelerated democompo
System requirements:
Win9x, heavy CPU infofile suggests p2 350, 5 MB HD
640*400*32 capable videocard for fullscreen or /w
not /W for windowed mode editor: you did that mistake too uh?
The demo:
The Replay guys got the second place at TP9, and as you would
expect, with a high-res design demo. It needs 640*400*32, too bad my
win-driver dont seem to support that vesa does, so Ive to fall
back on the windowed mode. The demo starts with a circle of
transparent circles, rotating over a blue-tinted background, while
we hear a girl recite a love-poem. Hey, wait a sec. Arent those
high-res design thingies supposed to be some kind of abstract art?
Since when do they include feelings, especially love and such soft
stuff? Well, since TP9, obviously, and IMHO its an improvement.
The rest of the demo IS closer to the traditional Danish design
it isnt exactly new anymore, he?, but the feelings are kept alive
in the music. Typical objects like morphing spiked blobs with a
white outline or flatcolored spheres are shown, but also a small
disc-world with a few trees, clouds and a sun, with changing colors
that follow the four seasons. Nice! The effects are not really
special. Some dots that first seem to float around randomly, form
a waving Replay logo, there are some wireframed squares that grow
and shrink... Something weird is the background that is made of
overlapping circles. It looks solid, but a 3D-object moving over the
circles hides these only if it covers the centers of the circles.
As a result, the edges of the object are covered by the circles.
I dont like it very much, it has a high bug or effect-confusion
level but maybe Im too easily confused. Theres one good
handdrawn? picture, the face of a black woman. I think its the
first girl-image Ive seen in this type of demo. The backgrounds
consist of several pastel-colored areas with edges that are a bit
more complex then the average sine wave. They look simple, but they
fit with the feelings in the music. As you can guess, MP3 is used
here, I think mainly for the poem. The rest of the song also uses
vocals, but as instruments. The ID3-tag says its electronic, but
I think its more melodic and mellow then what most people expect
from electronic. Syncing is normal at the parts, with the
greetings as a positive exception.
Worth the download ?
Yes. The music is the best part for me, even if its an MP3
of which Im not so fond. Radix did a good job on that, but I
wonder if the poem was made for the demo: the ID3-tag says
RYMDLEGO - I Realize, feat. Melissa Tan. If it was, it would be
nice to credit the singer in the info-file. The overall feeling is
slow and soft with a bit of humor We really love you too, were
just afraid to show it in public : The only things Id like to
see changed in the final, if there is one, are support for 640*480
and that one little typo fixed. No, Im not gonna tell, download and
search for it yourself :.
Seven
Other opinion
Humm, i just read sevens review and i feel alot diferent about
this demo then seven does so im butting in :
Simple hi-res demo by replay another replay demo. Typical replay
style of good ideas badly linked. Very very bad 3d code pardon me
saying to the coder but that is slow like hell.. The idea was to
see snow falling i guess and its not a bad idea but the code sucks
so much you cant really notice it. After so many demos i think
Replay should rethink their strategy.. They already are good
designers and coders. Its time to use those qualitys and work
better on each scene of each demo. Link it better and get better
design. You can never get enough of that
Some new effects and ideas but nothing very pleasant to the eye
comparing to the awesome music you can hear.. That is a pure
masterpiece! I kiss radix feet. Reusing the poem recited by melissa
on a diferent kind of musical approach then the original irealize.it
released at LTP3. The music goes real deep and i feel very bad
replay couldnt have done better visual work with it..
I was seriously let down from replay visual side of the demo...
But they still rule for having released about 20 demos on the past
year! I wish their new year resolution is improving the quality of
them all.. i know they have the talent to do better things.

Rubicon2 by Suburban
64 kilobytes intro
4th place out of 10 at The Party 1999
Download:

Crossbone - programming
A-move - music
Crossbone/Suburban has released many intros so far, I can recall
Eyestrain, Superfluxx, Dusk, Overtone, Rubicon and this one,
Rubicon 2. The first ones are quite similar to each other in a
certain way - they are well-designed, but not in the minimalist way
which now seems to be in. The last two intros show off with realtime
raytracing. Considering speed and quality, the raytracer is
breath-taking. However, it seems that only some coders are
respecting this - neither Rubicons managed to win, both of them were
overtaken by design-intros.
The intro has a good music. It is a rather calm tune.
Unfortunately the breakbeat instruments are too downsampled.
The intro contains no still pictures. No graphician was involved
in its creation. It is more about its code than its graphics.
It is astonishing how good the raytracing engine is. It works in a
relatively high resolution, considering the computation speed of
current PCs, or compared to other raytracing intros. All the
common features of raytracing are supported - texture mapping,
shadows, reflection. The rendering is very affine, at least there
are no visible bugs - probably the only noticeable fault is the lack
of texture filtering. There are also additional effects, namely
water and fog. These are very spectacular, especially the fog.
On the other hand, the intro runs more-or-less smoothly on an
average PC.
Besides the raytracer, there are bitmap effects, too. The first
effect, which is shown several times later on, is some sort of flight
in 3d mist. If I am right, this is the same effect as the one in
73 Million Seconds by Pulse. The other one is a morphing plasma
effect with a radial blur over it.
The colors of the effects are not the best.
Most of the textures are fine there are quite good marble-like
ones. The texture with hexagon pattern is probably an exception, it
does not quite fit in the raytracing scene where it is used.
The intro itself consists of two raytracing scenes - one with
water, one with fog - and three other effects. These parts follow
each other, and some of them are shown repeatedly. These changes are
synchronised to the soundtrack. Unfortunately the intro is too short,
and it ends suddenly.
These little faults are probably due to the fact that it was put
together in just a few days. Nevertheless, it is probably the best
raytracing intro of 1999, and it should have ranked better at
The Party, I think.

no love out there
prymer
www.tdr.scene.org - 147 mp3
Beautifull melancholic triphop track with soft melodies. It is
influenced by dnb and it has a lot prymer sound which makes it
original - I have never heard a triphop track of this kind. Song
is build on a sad guitar which sounds like being played by a lost
blues legend, human voices appear in the background and soft
trumpets sing to the empty space.
No question, this one is worth downloading.

I am not really sure and I cant remember now. From Haujobb
Discloned was cool, Fuckwitt also. Gcube had very physical stuff.
I liked the realtime raytracing intros, but the thing that I am sure,

they do! : editor: catch22 still rules

Viagra by Mewlers. Perkele. ed: i should delete perkele right?
-Bitnik
what kind of question is this? and what the fuck is fukwit daddy
doing on this list? ofcourse bakkslide 7 is the best intro of 99.
