Guess them? 4MB HD, Vesa2 or M13h (ugly!), works with a SB16. The demo: Superstition placed first AND second on the Ambience'99 democompo, and some people say their demos are almost identical. Although this is not true, Superstition HAS a very recognizable style, and Melora follows it indeed. So there are layers all over the place, different tunnels displayed at the same time, lines forming a raster, ... However, everything fits together smoothly, at the right speed, never boring. The zoom-effect is really nice, and I noticed the tunnels have some strange kind of anti-aliasing, not just blurring, but rather as if the edges of the pixels have 8 directions instead of 4. I wonder how they did that. The 3D-system is a bit slow at certain places, though. Magicboys pictures are good-looking as usual: faces of beautiful girls, with some wire-frame torusses in contrasting colors, heavy blurred. By the way, the picture after the 3D-tunnelflight, of the 3 girls and the parrot, has won the graphic-compo. The music: It starts soft, a bit like a film-soundtrack, but then the drums kick in, along with a lot of techno-sweeps and electronic instruments. Voice samples are used sparsely. No synching to effects, but sometimes, there is a change of theme when there is a new part, e.g. at the zoomer. It's not bad, although I liked the Sign Off-music better. But hey, I have less knowledge of music then my deaf grandmother, so ... (But I know what I like :)) Worth the download? If you've seen Sign Off or other Superstition-demos and didn't like it, skip this one. Chances are rather small you'll like this, and you won't be a social pariah if you say you didn't saw it (Unlike when you say you don't read DemoJournal :)). However, the Superstition motto "It's the inside that counts" has been replaced by "All good things come to an end", and I read on the Quad forum that Magicboy has left the group. So maybe it's their last demo... Are you sure you want to miss it ? For all others, don't hesitate. Some things have been done before in their other demos, but these were great too. Compare Melora with the Ambi'99 releases of other groups if you want... You'll see the difference. Seven =====! intro !================================================================= Backpage by Suspend ... placed 7 from 8 intros at Ambiance '99 (back131.zip) but i think it was the best. Why, you ask? Becouse there are lot of scenes, interresting thingies, not the usual "i wanna be jizz", n+1 clones. It is a typical polish intro, all with the tipical polish features: colorfull, agressive soundtrack, some not well designed parts, Eclipse Operating System, bad mood-feeling, and destroy. :) Belive me, 80% of the polish intros are about this. (tower is a good example too.) Sometimes they are a little boring, but this not! Starts with a 73MS like object with flares, and we are going here inside the object too like in Pulse's work, but in that were a lot of layers, maybe precalculated animation too, so Unreal if you read this, please tell us the secret. This is a "light" edition of the 73MS part. :) - a really fast raytrace scene is comming, (celeron 300A) not bad, interesting shades, 2 light sources, but in raytracing are Gamma1 and Sink still my favourites. Some colorfull volumetric lighting fun with credits. This part is totally same like in the 73MS. But here is not a Visualize pic behind. :) The "graffiti?" is really shit in the background. A better generated piccy would be better. - a fucking good bump is comming, got really feeling, trippy thing! - rotating object with flares and words-4-yeur-mind. Nice. - A very good compressed girlie picture, maybe with jpeg algorythm. Greetings part now, with the unique polish speciality, we-destroy-humans. =) - again raytrace but now with "snowman" object. (a la transagression1.) - this part reminds me for the winner Scenest '97 intro by Exact, called Fever. The object looks 90% the same, but in this "edition" we got some flares too. And a 2 color girlie picture is on this scene too, don't know why, it's not so interresting. The intro ends with lot of generated flying objects, flares, and a green ansi, what isn't the best one... Overall, i really like it, Pointman done a really good job, showed us an unique in 64kb! Congratulation. Drifts into dreams and open sea, clouded sky and gentle breezes. 5 songs, about 1 meg each. The final one is a little smaller, there is also a cover pic to go along with the set, now all we need is to get a record deal isnt it tiger? :P Back to the music, there isnt much information on the samples about the songs but it isn't required either, they are all soft ambient songs, like i said invoking freedom and enjoyment, some even have some soft vocals to help with the mood, everything fits together like it should on an ambient song and it's a wonderfull collection of songs.
