I T S N O T E A S Y B E I N G G R E E N The plant people are on the move No listen to me man They re just not takin any more Better run as fast ya can The streets are shaking thundrously Beneath their leafy tread Their tendrils stems and roots go in And probe inside your head The flowers found the lawn mower and took it for a ride and chased me down the street while chanting No more herbicide! Shrubs and hedges down the lane were marching at me crooning Take up the rakes the shears and spades! Let s see how HE likes pruning! And then the grass it tripped me up And twisted tween my feet It pinched it snatched it poked it scratched My face was in the peat Twining slowly round my legs came vines out of the sewer my nose was filled with reeking fumes of garbage and manure The road was torn and ripped to shreads By hordes of ancient roots The trees they planted barricades With baby little shoots C T H U L U ! The holly rose and hedges rose with thicket spike and thorn And scratched me up before I fled My flesh was hurt and torn My time has come the plants caught up With leaves and stalks a stalking But next time you pass an apple tree With apples glowing healthily Instead of reaping fruit with glee Just take an afterthought from me Why choose the LESSER of two evils ! And simply keep on walking
