Dedicated to an old enemy...

The streetlight just outside of the window behind her
deposited a thick orange glow into the otherwise pitch black
skyline of the surrounding city. Snowflakes slowly fluttered
down in front of it, the contrast adding a sort of moody
amber tint to the already otherwise intense atmosphere all
around us. I poured myself another cup of coffee and took a
quick sip. My hand returned to hers, outstretched across our
tiny corner table in this bustling downtown restaurant. As I
looked up my eyes met hers and slight but ever so genuine
smiles lifted our cheeks in almost perfect unison. We didnt
need words - we were both there, experiencing the same moment
for everything that it was, feeling the same energy flowing
around us as a whirlpool in a sea of contentment, and
reacting with the same emotions from the same places in our
hearts. All I could do was smile and stare. Smile and
stare, and feel. After a time we made our way back through
the crowds gathering around the bar and pushed open the
gigantic oaken doors. She grabbed onto my arm and squeezed
it firmly. We walked into the street and stopped after only
a few steps, gaping back up at the murky orange orb floating
in the cold night air, snow falling into our eyes and into
our grinning mouths.
