-the phunk tutorial---------------------------------------------------------
this is meant to be a tutorial for the more advanced ansi-artist. if you
are new in business, check out 14.zip aka 14 steps to worlddomination by
hennifer / lazarus.
no long introduction, this tutorial deals mostly with colorcombinations,
you should be able to handle the shaping already
and a VERY important note: never try to use too much new things.
first use the basic shading until its perfect and then move on the next
step. thats it.
ah well, you have to cope with my english, too.
most ansi-artists use a very small amount of the available colors.
newer artists often only use shadingscales like cyan-bright cyan-white etc.
they sure look good, but after youve seen dozens of logos
with this simple shading, they get extremely boring
the first possibility to enhance the shading is called pnakotic - after the
ice-logo artist releasing in 94 or something who invented this :
there are several kinds of pnakotic shading.
1. the f2 method
you got a dark area of a certain colour and put a f2-block /alt-177 some-
where on it.
- f2 - f2 - f2 - f2 - f2 - f2
as you might have noticed, some combinations dont look too good - like
blue, red and brown.
just putting a f2block somewhere in the middle of an empty area usually does
not look too good, either.
2. the fading-out method
pnakotic is a cool way of fading out into black.
-f1
-f2
-f4
3.
you can use some pnakotic f3-block in a normal shading scale to add some
diffusion.
you usually do not recognize at the first sight, but it adds some
detail into the ansi, especially if you use it several times but
never overdo it - like i use to do from time to time
this works with a couple of colours like yellow and brown, cyan,
red etc.
sometimes that little contrast is too strong. then you can smooth
it with one grey block on the bg-colour.
4. extended pnakotic
in the last time i used to some kind of extended pnakotic. have a look:
appeared in bmbook 16
k o l O r ..
avebm
lets take this part for example. as you can see i almost always
chose black as background colour for the bright colours pink/white/
yellow.
i smoothed those hard contrasts with
some f1-block of the same or of a darker on
colour
- on black
bright squares
dieznyik once released a tutorial about transparency.
halaster/fire often uses this, too.
it works fine with grey/white, cyan/bright cyan .. but also with some quite
odd combinations.
examples:
just try it yourself.
of course you do not have to choose always squares. it works well with every-
thing.
phunk colours.
here is some list of colours which blend cool to each other.
these are only proposals and the list isnt complete, of course. go wild :
