I have been mostly eating... votes =====! interview !============================================================= *** sunday has joined #demojournal <|ps|> hello! so who are you? :) you mean i should know? <|ps|> i guess so! didnt they tell you who you were when you where first born? i think they forgot.. and they never told me during even if they actually tried in weird ways umm :) so, where do we start? <|ps|> what do you do on the scene? whats your real name, how old, shoe size.. I do what people tell me to do, never the less i still dont seem to do it :) Oh and yes its graphics i usually do. my name would be Martin Andersson.. and aged 25 Are you going to censor anything? =) <|ps|> when did you first started getting interested on the scene? I can hardly remember.. At first i think i came to see some demos on a friends amiga back in 90-91 and then on pc at home somewhere in 91-92.. And first getting activly involved when joining a local group called DPS around 93.. and going to TCC Ive been using paintprograms on PC since the mid 80ties tho. programs like Graphics in a box and Dr halo and then dpaint. (which i still use alot) <|ps|> where do you get inspiration for your pics? Well, my main inspiration for the actual painting part is more towards techniques of different kinds, things in what you see what makes things look good. that can come from anywhere but its more obvious what looks good if you look at others work ofcourse. My motives comes from within myself which is a rather hard part to explain. I can try narrowing it down to seeking out situations that are interesting or communicates a feeling. Inspiration in the way of motivation i get from seeing what other people create.. in different forms. (thats what usually get me going as i rarely get myself going :) <|ps|> well.. what are your main influences then? :) that would be visualize mainly i think (scenewise) i really like the feeling in his pics and he's got a lovely technique aswell painters outside the computer arena are way too many to name.. :) <|ps|> ok.. so you said you started on amiga, how has your scene career developed? No, i never owned an amiga or a c64 or anything like it.. Its been a messy career, ive been joining alot of groups but i never quitted them. they went dead on me instead :) If you want specific names then its in joining order: DPS, Mistery, Proxima, Tpolm, Nothing, Obscure and others i was involved in but never joined :) (i hope i didnt forget any) <|ps|> ok.. dinner break now? :) yes please! Session Close: Sun Sep 26 19:22:18 1999 Session Start: Mon Oct 04 22:07:06 1999 <|ps|> what parties did you attended? and which ones were the best/worst? I like to think that old times were the best ofcourse, when the parties consisted of devoted people :) Nowadays its hard to find, so the smaller parties are taking over the role as real sceneparties.. i dont want to name any particular parties :) <|ps|> oh cammon, dont be a bad guy! name some :) Actually no party has been a completely crappy.. but think im going to TP this year again so there's my chance <|ps|> hehehehe :) what is the best memory you have from past times on the scene? or some of the best.. That would be the discovering of the scene, going to my first big parties and seeing all the glamour :D TCC'93 still sticks out as one of the best and most memorable of all parties ive been to. <|ps|> ok, time for quick questions... 1) whats your favorite color? uqakak black <|ps|> 2) what is the capital of madagascar? ! do i have time to fetch a map? <|ps|> no :) do you really want to know? <|ps|> i already know :P its antananarivo :) you should know too ok, then you dont need to know it again next! <|ps|> 3) whats the velocity of the light speed C goddammit! next <|ps|> 4) whats a moomin? fat white blob (forgive me) <|ps|> 5) how many possible combinations can we get on a 320*240*16 res? argh.. <|ps|> cammon!! mind calc! :) you should know these things dont ask me mathematical questions.. <|ps|> :) what is the secret to your technique? do you have any or is it just pixels where they seem nice? ok hey wait.. i just calculated that i have 4915200000 pictures to draw before i die :) <|ps|> ehehe its not much so where the pixels are its more a thing of streching out from the screen to fool the brain :) <|ps|> stretching out from the screen? i like to tickle the brain. it doesnt always mean beauty :) <|ps|> what is your favorite pixel to date? the one i never painted :)) I hope im avoiding your questions in a correct manner? <|ps|> what are your favorite coder/musician/gfxians? You know what.. i never liked filling out the diskmag forms! <|ps|> :P so what happened to you to get you on this mood? :) I had a discussion with someone who didnt want to listen =) im sorry, ill try.. ill try Anyway, what admire within all categories are creativity and feeling, ok to some extent also skill :D unreal, hoplite, zden and statix belong there and dune,md and umm many others :) graphicians i admire are ra, visualize and lazur. (keeping it short. there are plenty others) <|ps|> whats your favorite demo and intro? give me some time :) * |ps| offers sunday one big chunk of time this is just not possible :) <|ps|> you dont have any favorites? if i am even going to name a few its going to be a huge list.. they all have something special <|ps|> go right ahead! what do i care about size.. :) paper, jizz, stash, crash, bash :) <|ps|> crash bash? :P never heard of them? thats your problem :D <|ps|> crash and bash? to tell the truth no i havent.. whenever you find them tell me. id like to see them aswell :) <|ps|> :P what about demos? 303, hyperventilation, plastik,comastuff.. fudgestuff, matrixstuff. you know :) oh and latest bombs are nice <|ps|> is design same thing as style? partly i guess. design are the details. style is wholeness of the design <|ps|> nice definition :) do you have a pet? sometimes :) no details <|ps|> well.. i guess we are done :P have some wise words for your fans? nope :) they are already lost beyond hope <|ps|> where can ppl see your pics and stuff? :) the hidden place is: http://w1.506.telia.com/~u50602283/ <|ps|> well.. thank you for your time sunday :) hope you get better from your bad day :) thanks alot pal!!!! a goodnight! im glad to be of service pssst.. is this thing on?? <|ps|> ssssssssssqqqqqqquuuuuuuueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkk ;) Session Close: Mon Oct 04 23:19:03 1999 =====! demo !================================================================== Synaps 0-12 by Cocoon (party-version) Found at www.scene.org 2nd place at LPT3 System requirements: Windows, 18 Meg HD (yes, 18!). 8 Meg zipped, available at scene.org as either a single zip or several disk-size ARJ-files. The demo: In the textfile they said they wanted to give this demo a techno-touch, but they couldn't do it without the dark and hopeless feeling (well at least that's what I think they mean, as it's full of intentional pselling errors). If you've seen other Cocoon-prods, you know what to expect: long rides through hi-tech tunnels and rooms filled with scary objects, with overlays of pics and text blurred in one direction on top of it. The serial-killer 3D-head and the lightning-emitting eyes will probably give you a Shad1-dejavu. I would have liked fewer rooms and some more objects, like those awesome techno-wasps. Just a camera flying is rather boring. Also the textures have a lot of contrast, which makes them rather blocky in the low-res mode. The pictures are one of the best points of this demo. Full-screen pixeled gfx, just the way we like them. The theme must have been "Weird heads": two (supposed) criminals with insane big grins, a man with either a VR-helmet or something more dangerous, a blurred, almost skull-like face merging with stairs,... The style of overly blurred, unreadable messages has changed in favor of short slogans (Replicate life/Do not think/Live for consumption) in flyer-design-style: each word has a different place, size and orientation, with blurred lines and circles connecting them. The music: It's indeed rather techno, but it has far more variation than the average techno-tune. It starts with a voice-sample, something about researchers that have developed something, and then goes into a very nice mainpart with lots of different catchy drumlines and enough strange samples to justify the 3.4 MB filesize. At the end, it stops suddenly, then continues with a fadeout at the last part. Probably because it has to load that last part, and maybe this doesn't happen if you have more memory available. I like the music a lot, it complements the demo perfectly. Worth the download ? If we talk about downloading, we talk about size, and Cocoon has the bad habit of creating HUGE demos. 8 MB zipped, that's about as much as two normal demos unzipped, and 18 MB unzipped makes me wonder whether LPT3 had a filesize-limit or not. Also there is no library-file, just over 150 files in 14 subdirectories. That gives you a chance to watch all pictures, which is nice, as some are only used for env-mapping, and deserve to be seen fully. But what did I notice? There's a overlay with an angle, and the words fly/fly/fly/ falling down appearing on it. Guess what? There are 5 complete screens used for that, instead of just the background and a few small pics of the separate words. That's halve a MB of HD and memory space wasted! (For a 4K-intro coder, that seems a horrible crime :)) I really hope they make a final that's more space-efficient, maybe storing the pics in GIF or PNG-format, as TGA does 0 compression. Leaving the size-ranting aside and focussing on the artistic side, it's a nice demo, if you like their style. Nothing really new, but there are a few subtle things that you'll like. Fe, when I saw the credits on little 3D boards sticking out a large rotating column, I thought "not AGAIN", until I noticed that only the profession was shown on the boards, and the handles of the authors were overlayed at the moment a certain board pointed in your direction. Not 100% new, but at least a bit original. BTW, you can choose between windowed and fullscreen, but there's a very obvious bug in the windowed-version: the size of title-bar is included in the 320*240 window, and as a result, the lowest 1/10th of the screen is lost. So, should you get this ? If you're a Cocoon-fan or the long DL-time doesn't scare you, go for it. Others may prefer to wait for the final, or skip it if 3D is not your style. Seven [editor: i don't think there is a final since they are already rumoured to have started working on a new demo but.. keep the faith :)] =====! intro !================================================================= g-cube remix with a spotlamp by matrix, not the film. the winner of dialogos 99, and we (exceed) especially waited it becouse they intro is presenting am idiotic jumping spotlamp, what we want to do since hm... mekka 98? :) (the original idea had pixar studios around 1986 i think, but who cares. ;)) hopefully our works premier will be at TP99. back to intro. i like the music inside, made by muffler. i like the jumparound too. and the 3d technique they use is still amazing. the sound system by digisnap is making a carrier: in every second intros at dialogos you can hear it. :) in few words that's all what this intro, and the most favourite films democrew show us. :) and watchout for the football match between hungary and portugal! :) if hungary wins, i d-lee make an euro party tour 2ooo, that was the deal with the lovely editor of this nice electronical weekly magazine. if portugal wins or draw, ps must get some money in the future, because he will come again. (aaaaahhh mammma help, i had a bad dream with a portuguese... ) [editor: actually i wanted to make him come if hungary won not lost.. but something happened.. i should really stop betting :P] d-lee @ szombathely (means "saturday place city" ... better than the city of townsville ;)) =====! music !================================================================= Agent Zed Laxity / Vibrants scene.org/.../Lax-azed.zip (mp3) - a bit more than 3MB I'm happy to say that a lot of great music came out during last weeks. We've got here again an acid jazz tune, this time by Laxity, who has already proved to be a great tracker and this one belongs to his best. Compared to Smash's jazz tunes is this one more synth-based, main instruments are piano and organ based and in some parts play in the background strings. That influences the mood of the song and differs it from others. You'll enjoy it if you like jazz. And if you don't, I'm sorry for you. Broken promise (mp3 of course) Simon V (Vivid) mp3.com/simonv 1999 Simon V offers on the mp3.com music from his album One night. I've downloaded 3 songs from it and even when the other two are very good, this one has something specific what makes it special and 100% worth listening. Track is introduced with sea sounds - but not a simple recording of some stupid gulls. Harp plays the melody of the tops of the waves which move with the strings. Into this atmosphere plays a drumline and goes to fadeout. Here comes the guitar and synth sounds together with another drumline to join into the main theme of this great tune. In this part are the most important the side sounds, which sometimes imitate style of other real instruments, sometimes play on their own. Number of the instruments is wide and they overlap each other. That gives an interesting, full and alternating sound. The tune passes and slowly moves to it's end introducing more sounds and leaves in you beautifully strange feeling. If you want to know, the other tunes I've downloaded are "Hymnus" which is #1 in dnb charts at mp3.com and "Pulse code". Little Sandra, Don't You Cry (mp3) Keith303 / TDR www.tdr.scene.org -> #124 1999 Most played tracked song for more than a week (at my home of course). It was beaten only by soundtrack of The Matrix. Get both :) =====! quote !================================================================= "Have fun couting the votes." adok [editor: reading this after going through your votesheet that was more with commments then with votes is rather sarcastic. Next time instead of big bable about your problems just name the 5 best.. thats what was asked.. and when you dont wanna vote you just dont vote.. leave it blank you know... you dont HAVE to force the votecounter to read 8 lines of mambojambo to arrive at the conclusion that you werent going to vote. And btw, as this is a scene newsletter when i mean top 5 its implicit that they are sceners. Game musicians might be very elite and cool musicians but if they never released a track for the scene i dont see how they can be considered sceners... I just wonder how the hell do you run a diskmag with charts and cant even fillout a fucking votesheet.. im sorry if i sound rash but counting votes and stumbling upon this sort of things makes me sick, one thing is to not know well the scene and vote little or skip some category.. I can understand that some people don't know the scene well or have gone abit innactive but making fun of the votecounter IS NOT nice! I know that i'm going to get flammed for this comment about you but i don't give a shit!] ?------------------------------------------------------------------- -- - - !====:] commercial break!
