BBS Newz????
The Renegade Information Crew Tric is dead. The long time BBS
Modding group is gone and wont be releasing anything. They still
have their web page up. http://www.tric.org or ftp ftp.tric.org
There are some new modding groups out, Whotang, W0e is still going
very strong, blz and some others. You can find their stuff on the
w0e page.
IDT Iniquity Development Team has a pre-release of the
latest Iniquity...They are now known as IST Iniquity Support Team.
Hopefully IST has fixed the upload/return time with this new release
along with a few other needed bug fixes.
Someone has release an Iniquity hack called Iniquity-X. This is
what they do when they cant write a BBS program themselves.
w0e has a new emag out, WZIV.zip you can dl it from ftp.cdrom.com
or get it off of Metal Edge. They have a new web page. Its pretty
kewl, all their modding packs and other groups packs are found here.
http://www.wasted.nu
Demonic group has a web page and ftp site. http://www.demonic.net
or ftp.demonic.net with some stuff on it.
Warlock Ansi/Ascii group is incorporating BBS mods to their future
packs. Warlock is still in need of members so apply...
I also read in w0ezine that Discofunk has bailed on the scene. I
understand that a picture of him was taken at an ascii meet, and
the embarassment and hassle he got from other ppl caused him to
quit. He hung out in ascii, seemed like a real asshole. Ah well,
good riddance.
Ive been hearing from people, Ansi/Ascii artists, BBS Sysops and
x-Ops, users etc., that the BBs scene is dead. Seems that a lot
of boards are moving to the internet telnet. A letter was posted
to alt.bbs.iniquity by some d0rk that said that theres only 4 or
5 boards in his area, and that he knew someone that put up a board,
waited A WHOLE MONTH, didnt get enough calls to suit him and took
it down. Ah, I guess a month is a long time? Why are there so many
boards in Europe that are multinode? they get calls? But here in
the US, theyre dying.
I also understand that a lot of the internet providers are going
to either raise their flat rate fees 19.95 to 21.95 or charge
by the hour again. Does anyone get the feeling that they started
charging a flat rate to hook us in, then are going to raise the
rates to get more money out of the people that cant give it up?
How will this affect the BBSs? Anyone have an insight or an
opinion about this? Or the fact that the web has seemed to go
totally business oriented. You really cant search for anything
without coming up with tons of pages that sell stuff. The number
of personal pages, or hobby pages are dropping. Lots of personal
pages are disappearing for some reason. The amount of spam scams
is on the increase, and Im understanding that Usenet is soon to
be a thing of the past.
For all the above mentioned BBS Modding packs, ezines, and BBS
Software you can download them from Metal Edge BBS.
